I haven't tested this but caught my eye on Ghacks - perhaps useful for someone

Easily register any portable app as a default program in Windows. This will allow you to directly open weblinks (http/https URLs) with the portable browser of your choice.
Dear PFC forum members, Considering that win11 removed the option to set as default app, and a great software engineer invented SetUserFTA to realize this feature, I would like to use this feature together with Portable Registrator, which is more convenient and makes the whole working process smoother.
However, I've made a comment in GitHub issues, and no one has responded. I've tried to contact Frank G., the developer of Portable Registrator, using other contacts, but I've been unsuccessful.
Can any of you help me get in touch with this great technologist? Tell him about this interesting idea?
Dear man, I think I may not have expressed myself clearly, what I mean is that after generating the progid, the program can call SetUserFTA in the background to directly batch-associate these formats, which you can see would be very convenient if you do it this way. This would eliminate the need to manually associate each file format.

Well, he did answer me.
But he pretty much refused to take any action. I mean, why would such a minimal program trigger multiple malware warnings plus crash Sandboxie?

I'm sorry, dear fellow! I can't answer these questions for you, I'm a rather aggressive computer user and don't have any protection apps installed!
But I think Portable Registrator is a great idea to implement! It provides portable software lovers with a convenient option on how associated file format!

...Unfortunately, Windows 8, 8.1, and 10 don't permit apps to adjust file associations and then set them back anymore the way we had planned when developing for Windows XP/Vista/7. Associations must go through the OS with the user being prompted to change them. This is by design so that apps can't steal associations like setting themselves as your default browser without your permission....
In my case I use Total Commander's option to "Associate Internal (Only Total Commander)"; it accepts relative paths. I set it up a long time ago and never thought about it again. I don't even know what are the default system apps on my OS, I use only my portable ones. However, it can't cover 100% of user cases (for example clicking a link in a Help/About menu).
