Jarte Suddenly Gives Narrow Page

#1 Post by LodeHere »

Hi,
after many years of enjoying Jarte now suddenly when I open it to write a new document a much narrower page opens to write on. Half the width of the previous standard size it looks like.
When I open a document in Jarte I wrote before the issue began it first open in that narrow page size and then almost instantly in the normal page size I wrote it on.

I had Jarte uninstalled with Revo Uninstaller Pro, including my Jarte settings, with an after scan and deleting everything in Revo. And then re-installed it, but still that narrow page appears when I want to write a new document.

This is something I would like to ask the developer of Jarte about. But found no contact option for.
So I came here in the hope someone much more knowledgeable than myself could give a solution.

(BTW, I almost gave up trying to register when I did not understand the anti-bot test. Luckily I was able to find the answer to that on this forum.) :D

Thank you very much.
So far playing with the wrap settings I've been able to change the page width to a size covering my whole 15,6" screen. So it does not look like a page. If I change the wrap settings I get the narrow page again. It's either my whole laptop screen or a narrow page I'm getting now. The Preview for printing shows in the narrow page, also if I wrote on the full laptop screen.

I feel like bedtime, and looking further into this tomorrow.

What still puzzles me is that after having Jarte removed completely including settings with Revo Uninstaller, and downloading it again from the Jarte website, and installing it again, I still get that narrow page issue.

in the 2024 feature update for Windows 11 WordPad is removed and Jarte is based on the Microsoft WordPad word processing engine.

Can this be the culprit?

Additionally if the problem persists after a full uninstall/clean/install cycle, it must be rooted in the system configuration.

Have you tested in a different computer? May something have been written to the system registry that causes this?

I'm just speculating here, but perhaps, as Ennovy points out, Wordpad settings could be the culprit... :|

Thank you very much for your responses.
The issue is on one of my two EliteBook 850G1 laptops with Windows 8.1.
I got the first one in 2016 and -because I liked it so much- got a second one in 2019. The 2016 one has the issue. The newer one doesn't.
(Both I got with a 40 % discount from trusted vendors because the original HP boxes had been damaged.)
I've used the one from 2016 and stored the 2019 one for the day the first one stops working properly and cannot be fixed (or not worth it.)

So it looks like it's related to my otherwise still functioning laptop. Except for two other issues: I cannot access Zoom on it, and every time during reboot an HP message appears on the screen saying that the fan is not working, and that I must press "enter" within 15 seconds otherwise the system shuts down. Then a timer counts down the seconds. I press "enter" and the desktop screen appears normally and I can use the laptop.
But that error message is itself an error as the fan works fine.

The only thing with that is that I cannot install updates or use system restore that need rebooting normally. So also no upgrading to Windows 10, as that requires a series of normal reboots I suppose.
I've been thinking of giving the 2016 one away. I still have an unused 8.1 Pro disk. But how can I prepare the laptop for giving it away? (To a close by charity shop.)

PS:
I do not see the possibility to give the laptop away as I would have to wipe the SSD clean by having CCleaner overwrite all data first and then reinstall Windows 8.1 on it from the still unused disk, of upgrade it to Windows 10, which won't work as the reboot sequences are interrupted by the white HP page with the "Fan not working" error. So instead I'm thinking of bringing it to the repair shop where I was recently to put a new keyboard in it (which I had already bought myself but thought it better a pro do it) and install a new button cell battery in it. (They did it for free because they could not fix the reboot issue!)
I had the latter done because on the other still practically unused laptop the time and date often changed. Once to 2036! I noticed it because my Brave browser told me the connections was too insecure and it would not let me browse. It took me a while to find out it was because of the wrong date until I noticed it also said that the license of my ISP had expired. In November 2025!

So the idea now is to go back to the repair shop this time with both laptops after having the SSD overwritten from the older laptop, and leave it there for recycling, and have a new button cell battery put in the newer one. (For which a lot of stuff has to be temporarily removed in this G1 version.) They told me that if I bring the laptop in the morning for a new button cell I could pick it up in the afternoon.

Unless the Jarte issue could be fixed. I thought of hiring a programmer and give him access to my laptop, to see if he could fix Jarte on it.
Crazy Idea? Or not so crazy?

I now fully realize that it is not a problem at all. I can still write with Jarte on the 2016 laptop, either on narrow page size or full laptop screen size. When I copy/paste it in my email it renders normal.
My Opera stand alone email client has only a spell checker for English, not for Dutch. So I use Jarte for Dutch checking. That still works in my Jarte, regardless of the narrow page or full laptop screen mode.

The only thing is that my printer does not work with Jarte now. It tells me I have to put paper in it even when there is still plenty in it.

But for printing or wanting documents to look normal I can use the 2019 laptop on which Jarte and printing with it works fine.

The lesson for me:
"You worry about things you need not worry about.
It is time for you to develop internally instead of writing.
Writing may come when the time is right and you are fully inspired. This insight is a small example of that as a pointer to it."

That message from your printer is most likely due to a wrong paper format setting -- I recall having a similar problem because, since I live in Europe, the expected one would be "A4" while most US applications default to "Letter"... :|
