So first of all, this looks great. Every antivirus program I test always frustrates me with a lot of extra resource usage. I can't imagine something less intense than this.

Note that the page isn't super clear about this fact, but it isn't trialware based on the Licensed down the page a bit:

"Emsisoft Commandline Scanner is included with subscriptions to all products. It is also included with Emsisoft Emergency Kit, which is free for non-commercial use. A standalone version of Emsisoft Commandline Scanner is available for commercial use and can be licensed separately from our other products."

From the included 'readme.txt' file:

--- License ---

Private users: Emsisoft Emergency Kit is free for private use only.

Also check the "Scope of License" section in the included 'license_XX.html' file, as it points to further restrictions.

On different aspects, I found the following bits interesting, too...

--- Do-It-Yourself Emergency Kit USB stick ---

Extract the contents of the Emsisoft Emergency Kit to a USB stick to create your own universal tool for scanning and cleaning infected PCs. [...] Please be aware that Emsisoft Emergency Kit is a 'cleaning' utlity only and does not replace any 'protection' software that prevents infections in the first place.
--- 32 and 64 bit notes ---

Emsisoft Emergency Kit contains two folders: bin32 and bin64. [...] If you run either of the editions to perform an online update, the other edition will always be updated too.

Last, it should be noted that regular GUI EEK program defaults to accessing the internet in order to auto-submit crash, usage, and detection reports, as well as to silently auto-update signatures on startup -- and you have to check advanced options and its logs to confirm this -- but it's up to the user of the CLI frontend to run the command below to get updated:

Code: Select all

a2cmd /u
