Thanks to Andrew for the 2.2.0 update. I was getting concerned about the lack of a .zip distro.

I don't think we'll see a .zip version soon from the author, because the installer includes now an offer (and the necessary installation kit!) for the msn toolbar. I guess he 'got an offer he couldn't refuse...

Has anyone noticed that from version 2 up, picpick modifies the file called "GDIPFONTCACHEV1.DAT" in appdata (font cache) ? Usually the programs that do that are .net dependent.
Can someone that doesn't have .net installed (everybody here but me, it seems :) ) check on that? Do all the features work ok?

WinXP SP3 no .NET installed and it edited GDIPFONTCACHEV1.DAT, just did a Google to find out if there is a connection with .NET and I found "The GDIPFONTCACHEV1.DAT file is normally used by Microsoft Windows as a cache for storing font data. " [LockerGnome]

Seems like an MRU-like thing, in that various apps update the font cache with their usage etc. I am thinking this would still qualify as portable, though. Others?

Sure.
Furthermore, this software is distributed as freeware. So you may use this software on any number of computers for as long as you like.
Also, the developer has permitted portableapps to distribute his application. See http://portableapps.com/node/19981#comment-141436

Has anybody tried to install version 2.27?

I seem to remember the previous version or two started carrying baggage. This version, though, does not ask if you want to install anything extra.

As soon as I installed 2.27, I started getting innundated with demands to install Bing toolbar and Microsoft Search Assistant. Even though I said "no" to every demand, it kept repeating and repeating. Scotty and my firewall went crazy and the demands persisted through reboots and finally I was able to kill the rogue processes.

I'm not sure that PicPick was responsible, but this all started IMMEDIATELY upon installing PicPick 2.27.

Anybody else have the same experience?

Don't install it. Use UniversalExtractor.

There is a "msn_inst.exe" (Bing Toolbar Installation - copyright 2010 Antanda :?: ) file inside the installer.
