FuguHub (formerly BarracudaDrive) [file server]

#1 Post by wini »

[Mod note: the present is the official forum topic for FuguHub (formerly BarracudaDrive); https://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=591]

BarracudaDrive is a free and secure multi-user Web-based file manager that does not require FTP access. The application includes a user editor and a database for restricting access, as well as a personal Web server. BarracudaDrive offers an integrated real-time chat server/client, an HTML editor, and HTTPS tunnels for securing other services such as telnet, FTP, VNC, or HTTP. The new version adds WebDAV, a set of extensions to the HTTP(S) protocol that allows a server to appear as a standard network drive.

BarracudaDrive is free for Mac OS X, Linux, and Windows.

BarracudaDrive is already in the database, so I have moved the topic to "Portable Freeware Update".

I have updated the version number for BarracudaDrive in the database. Thanks!

I was looking through the web servers section, and noticed BarracudaDrive: http://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=591

I vote to remove it from the database, since the direct download link provided here now just links to a page asking you to buy BarracudaDrive.

From this page you can download the freeware version 3.3, IMHO

(The pro version, at the homepage, is 3.6)

V3.3 appears to be adware. It displays Google ads for the free version.

I have made V3.0 available for direct download. If any of you have a more recent version that is freeware, please email it to me. Thanks!

I received an email from the developers of BarracudaDrive.

Surprised to know they are still developing the product and it is now at V6.8.

The license is free for personal use.

I have updated the database entry in case anyone is interested:

Very nice. I remember seeing this when it went commercial-only and wishing I could have played with it. I guess they're seeing all the "personal cloud" programs coming out that have the same functionality they were advertising years ago and wanting to get themselves some visibility.

Topic update: BarracudaDrive last release is v6.8 released sometime back in 2014 (see TPFC database).

Last WebArchive snapshot I found is from 2015:

FYI, BarracudaDrive might have been trialware with a very long trial period (see https://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=591#comment8277).

 Interesting...
FuguHub lets you set up and operate your own secure file-sharing site, even if you're not a techie. FuguHub is an easy-to-use server that runs either on your own computer/device or on your own private online cloud/VPS server.

I've changed the program description a bit away from "transforms your home or business computer network into secure online storage system" because ultimately that requires a bit of work and configuration: both encryption and external network access requires some additional work that probably isn't portable. The "MxTunnel" secure connection program is untested and I don't know of a portable dynamic DNS service.

I am really glad to have an available WebDAV server here on the site. There are a lot of great uses for a program like that, including simple file sharing, access from even ancient devices, and the ability to edit remote Word Documents (Fugu tutorial).
