When I was picking up the latest version, I found a few things. None of it is very important, just interesting if you're a fan of this program or video encoders.

Xmedia Recode License

I translated the license and as near as I can tell, it allows for non-commercial, private use AND educational. So its not quite Freeware.

Babelfish translated:
The author does not take over ADHESION for damage of any kind to files or hardware, which could be caused by this program. Installations and use of the software are free both in the private and in the commercial surrounding field. If those want to support the project financially, then you contact the author please directly. The private not-commercial passing on of the program on data media is permitted. The not-commercial reflection on www and ftp servers of schools, universities, associations and nonprofit organizations is permitted. The reflection of the program on homepages of Private people or trade is before from me approve to leave. The commercial utilization and distribution of the program are permitted only with express permission of the author. FFmpeg is licensed under LGPL and GPL SOURCE code: http://ffmpeg.org/download.html
System Requirements

The main page suggests that DirectX 9 is required. I tested this without DirectX on a few codecs (including Windows Media WMA and WMV) and it worked fine. Still quite portable.

Other changes since the last version:

* Actualization of x264 (1183) codec New functions
* Denoise filter
* Scaling (Bilinear, Bicubic, Nearest Neighbor, Luma bicubic/chroma bilinear, Gauss, Lanczos, Bicubic spline)
* 30 new profiles (Blackberry, Creative lab, HTC, LG, Nokia, Palm, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Toshiba)

Elimination of errors

* Smaller error repaired XMedia Recode can convert almost all well-known audio and video formats, among them 3GP, 3GPP, 3GPP2, AAC, AC3, AMR, ASF, AVI, AVISynth, DVD, FLAC, FLV, H.261, H.263, H.264, M4A, M1V, M2V, M4V, Matroska (MKV), MMF, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, TS, TRP, MP2, MP3, MP4, MP4V, MOV, OGG, PSP, (S) VCD, Southwestern German Broadcasting Corporation, VOB, WAV, WMA and WMV.

XMedia Recode can convert only unprotected DVDs.
