Comodo Time Machine (CTM)

This is not Portable( (haven't tested but highly unlikely!) but is Freeware. I can't think of any software that is Free and NOT
Microsoft who offer a whole snapshot of the PC, not just the System Files and Registry (System Restore.)

Comodo Time Machine (CTM) is a powerful system rollback utility that allows users to quickly restore their computers to an earlier point in time. CTM 'snapshots' are a complete record of your entire system (including the registry, critical operating system files and user created documents).

DriveImage XML is something similar but alot harder to initiate.

It's more like a fuller version of Windows' built-in System Restore, or perhaps like a more flexible Returnil. It's not a partition cloning tool, so if you have a physical problem with your system partition or hard drive, you won't have a backup like you would if you'd saved an image to a separate HD or to optical media with DriveImage XML - or with one of the non-portable options like Ghost, Acronis, Paragon, Clonezilla, etc., or with Windows 7's much-improved, available-in-all-editions (AFAIK), Backup and Restore Center.

Good Aspect being pointed out.
When talking about security, the only disadvantage when compared to partition cloning is that you have no recovery in case of a Boot Virus Attack, unless you use a separate program or backup the files from HDD. Or there is someway to fix the BOOT record when system is running? I will google for that.

Roadkil has a program named Boot Builder. Don't know whether that would apply here.

There is a way to log into Comodo Time Machine before Windows loads by pressing the "Home" key, this is ideal if Windows won't load at all. The Boot builder looks as though it can only run when Windows is running e.g. on a LiveCD

[GHacks] compared the program similar to
Returnil Virtual System, but it seems to be bundled with other system protection programs.

Freewaregenius did a
write up on this software.
The short version: very hard drive hungry but excellent despite a few flaws.

Old thread update: Comodo appears to have abandoned work on this program back in 2012 but the freeware program is still up on Softpedia:

Supposedly the code for Comodo's program was based on Rollback RX, which has a freemium program that is still maintained:
