Helge's Switchblade (portable USB toolkit)

#1 Post by Midas »

Helge's Switchblade (not to be mistaken with the USB windows cracking method reported elsewhere) is a portable toolkit that, although it isn't being developed anymore, might provide a quick way to arm your USB for portable system management.

Old thread update: this program hasn't been updated in 2 years and appears to be dead:
Helge's Switchblade is not longer being actively developed, there might be a rewrite in the future though.
(From the website)

The sourceforge page is available if someone wants to take it over or fork it.

I am the original author of this tool.

The main reason I stopped developing it is actually due to the fact that after a couple of drinks I managed to delete all of the source code for the tool, now you have to realize this was before I knew of source control or dropbox, and recovering it proved hopeless.

Although, honestly, the original tool was a complete hack that was a bunch of third party tools thrown together with a fancy visual basic GUI that opened up separate .exe's, I'd like to revisit the original idea of the tool in the future, preferable using something other than VB.NET.

The tool is still getting a few hundred downloads a month and the site gets around 600~ monthly hits.
I am now a much better developer then I was back when this tool was released and I'm sure I can do a lot better.

Very cool. Well, if you come back to it, I'd be happy to test it out and make suggestions.

I have lost a whole lot of data through means much less acceptable than alcohol.
