Everything UPX

#1 Post by Midas »

Being a console program, UPX (currently v3.91) doesn't have an entry here at TPFC. Nonetheless, it may be one of the most common references in the production of portable software, so I think a dedicated topic is in order.

UPX homepage is at http://upx.sourceforge.net/.

UPX achieves an excellent compression ratio and offers very fast decompression. Your executables suffer no memory overhead or other drawbacks for most of the formats supported, because of in-place decompression.
We have an excellent topic where user m^(2) analyzes executable packing with UPX at http://www.portablefreeware.com/forums/ ... php?t=3929.

We also have quite a few portable UPX GUI frontends:
And a couple portabilized alternatives:
PS: UPX support for 64 bit binaries is still experimental in the current version, so a reference to MPRESS might be justified (for more info, see http://www.portablefreeware.com/forums/ ... php?t=7659; I posted results of a single file test at http://www.portablefreeware.com/forums/ ... 022#p63022).

ArcThemALL! supports UPX as one of the main features, designed to compress several files at once: http://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=1497
