Pros:
This program looks *amazing* on a big screen and is a real improvement over any other calendar tool I've used, free or paid (including Outlook's calendar).
Minimizes to a smaller window well with the various sections auto-sizing without crowding.
Cons:
Immediately annoyed that you can't set default reminders. What a completely meaningless pro function. That feels like a tech demo or crippleware.
I had mixed feelings about the blue background, which I couldn't figure out how to edit (didn't try that hard).
Not terribly easy to use. Couldn't find the Todo list or notes components which are mentioned in the settings.
File - Exit does not close the program. You have to right click on the task bar and choose Exit. That's tedious.
So FolderMonitor was updated last year so I decided to take a closer look. A lot of the file and folder monitoring on our site is centered around testing portability, but I've definitely run into some situations when I wanted to have the computer actively notify me of changes.
This program includes an execute function, which might serve as a way to move, modify, or rename new files but I couldn't figure it out. In particular, it seems to panic with any file that includes spaces. Still, the notification program worked great.
Status: Still not portable. Writes to C:\Users\USERNAME\Desktop\FolderMonitor\FolderMonitor.xml

FolderMonitor helps you monitor what happens in a folder. When something changes you can get popup’s and sound alerts.
You can also execute commands based on the changes. You can monitor local drives and server shares.
If a remote location is not reachable for a while, FolderMonitor will try to reconnect to the folder. Multiple locations can be monitored. Notifications can pop up like this (when a new file was created).
