RulesPlayer will not start on Win98SE ?? Anybody can help?

#1 Post by Island Boy »

"DWT Unicode verion applications can't run in a non-Unicde Platform !"

pops up when I try to run it.

RulesPlayer is listed as Win9x compatable right?

I have "UNOFFICIAL Windows98 Second Edition Service Pack 2.1a" installed (which comes with "Microsoft Layer for Unicode")

HELP!

I found the answer (or the statement that it won't work) for you in the RulesPlayer Forums.
http://www.dsource.org/forums/viewtopic ... ht=unicode

Basically, the developer said back in December that Win 9x support is currently broken and s/he hopes to have it working in the next release.

I suppose that means the TPFC entry should be updated to reflect that.

By the way, Rules Player has a new website - the old one is gone, so that should also be updated in the database:

Mplayer gui

If you just need to get Mplayer running with a gui, you can try the "official" gui package, MPlayer 1.0rc2 Windows GUI at:

http://www.mplayerhq.hu/design7/dload.html

It's more focused on looks than ease-of-use. There are a bunch of skins available further down the page.

one more note

I thought I'd Google "mplayergui" to see if I could track it down. It's available at Softpedia and Download.com.

However, from the screenshots it appears that it got rolled into the Mplayer project - it's the same gui as the "official" gui.

EDIT:

It's a little more confusing that that. It looks like the old mplayerGUI (boxy, Win32 looks and menus) has moved here:

website: http://jasonyang.cn.googlepages.com/mplayergui

download: http://jasonyang.cn.googlepages.com/MPl ... 17_Lite.7z

That will probably be your best bet for Win 9x.

But the author's name is on those downloads from Softpedia and Download.com that use the "official" gui.
