The MuPDF manual has a new page- http://mupdf.com/docs/manual.

However the short-cut keys are not intuitive (traditional keys like Home, End and F11 do not work), cannot be re-mapped and are not well-documented (I had to guess that g opens first page- it is only documented that G opens last page) but I cannot find a key for opening of a new document without exiting MuPDF.

Besides PDF files MuPDF can also open EPUB, CBZ and XPS files.

Usually I appreciate bare bones programs but this is one is not to my liking.

MuPDF is licensed under Affero GNU General Public License.

Thanks for the info. It seems that MuPDF doesn't save any settings but I haven't checked the registry. By the way the latest version of MuPDF is 1.8.

MuPDF 1.9a released, dated 2016-04-26 (changelog at http://mupdf.com/news).
README.txt author wrote:MuPDF is a lightweight PDF, XPS, EPUB and CBZ viewer and parser/rendering library. The renderer in MuPDF is tailored for high quality anti-aliased graphics. It renders text with metrics and spacing accurate to within fractions of a pixel for the highest fidelity in reproducing the look of a printed page on screen. MuPDF is also small, fast, and yet complete. We support PDF 1.7 with transparency, encryption, hyperlinks, annotations, search and many other bells and whistles.

Included in the Windows archive download is command line tool mutool, which was recently the subject of a third party review:

All of this is relevant because MuPDF info is sparse in the extreme -- e.g., the only mention I could find concerning the difference between 'mupdf.exe' and 'mupdf-gl.exe' was at http://boards.4chan.org/wsr/thread/194317#p194358 (BTW, if that proves to be true, you only need the first executable for common use...).
