Primo (PRogram Installation MOnitor, a Regshot fork)

#1 Post by I am Baas »

PRIMO is short for PRogram Installation MOnitor. It is a registry and folder/file compare utility that allows you to quickly take a snapshot of your system and then compare it with a second one, done after doing system changes or installing a
new software product. The changes report can be produced in TEXT or HTML format and contains a list of all modifications that have taken place between snapshot1 and snapshot2.

The system contains several programs:
1 - Primo, which is used to monitor changes.
2 - Chkunin, which is used to check for left-over registy entries and files/folders if you un-install a system.
It also produces a .REG file to delete registry entries, and a .BAT files to delete folders and files.
3 - A .VBS file called "Not Monitored List.vbs" and a batch file called "Create_Not_Monitored_list.bat" that are used to create a list of folders and files on the drive you want to monitor in a file called "not_monitored_list.txt".
You can edit this file and change it if you need to.

Note:
- Read the documentation before you run Primo for the 1st time.

thanks Baas,

this app. looks promising ..
i appreciate the author taking time to write such detailed documentation ..

i found "CHKUNIN.TXT" to be very helpful.
i will have to take this for a spin ..

by the way.. the download link doesn't work..
i think the author has disabled hotlinking ..

------------------

EDIT:
Ok.. i just took this for a test run with Passmark OSF Mount ..
a program that i was having issues with ..
jv16 PowerTools could not detect the changes ..

Chkunin is very helpful!
it can decipher the output log into a clear, understandable, print out.

Great App!

i have been using this furiously..
i even did a clean installation of my Operating System since realizing jv16 PowerTools was not accurate..

all i can say about CHKUNIN is Wow!
what an awesome app. !

i have created ~.reg and ~.bat files for all apps. that leave traces for cleaning after usage :)

thanks for sharing this Baas!

I have 1 question though.. since Primo is a fork of RegShot and the output looks similar..
even the title is the same..
how come when i send RegShot's output to CHKUNIN .. it doesn't work..?
either way.. Primo is good enough.. but it has crashed on me once..
so i would love to be able to use RegShot's output with CHKUNIN ..

Primo is at V2.7.3 (February 27, 2012):
+ Since I have run Primo a few times without scanning for dir changes,
I have added a message box to let you know it is turned off.

Yes! Many thanks. PRIMO did it for me, and I'm now dipping my feet in system changes monitoring (and understanding what I'm doing, for once)... :D

Primo has been updated [current version is v1.0.1(a)?] and now includes 64 bits executables (changelog and download at http://members.tripod.com/~randy_hall/download.htm).

At first glance, Primo's development status is a little murky: previous (stable) version was v2.7.3 (32 bits only, with Chkunin v3.0 included); the current one looks beta(ish) and has pertinent info scattered through multiple sources (e.g., be sure to have a look at the unpacked 'Documentation for 64-bit' sub-folder). I guess Primo's author could benefit from a surge in user feedback...

July 31, 2014 -- Version 1.0.1(a) of my version of Regshot 1.9.1 is available.

Can anyone provide a way to get the older version, which from the screen shots look a lot better IMO.
I'm looking for version 2.7.3

I tried using the wayback machine to find an older version of primo.zp, but the only file there is the newer one.

Thanks in advance.

Primo's chkunin v7.1.0 released 2016-05-27...

'Chkunin x64 updates.TXT' author wrote:We may not want to delete some folders, like "Program Files", so check for them.
Also, programs installed in "C:\Program Files" may also put folders in "C:\Users\Randy\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files" so to stop chkunin from 'finding' folders in "C:\Program Files" that are not there, you also have to make sure there are none in "C:\Users\Randy\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files". Code was added to chkunin to (hopefully) do this.

I got confused by this so -- to clarify -- chkunin is a component of Primo (as mentioned earlier in the thread, it's used to check for left-over registy entries and files/folders if you un-install a system). As a result the whole program has seen an update.
