Some news about the latest version: a performance-focused version 6.4 is out with some nice changes:

https://blog.documentfoundation.org/blo ... ffice-6-4/

Two caveats: the portable version over on PA has not yet been updated to this version, and I generally recommend the "Still" or extended-release version, but this is still very nice to see. As MS Office 2016 seemed sluggish with the most recent update, this is especially welcome news.

Hello,

I'm using portableapps' Libreoffice and I'm wondering does anybody know how to make other app see it as an installed version? I'm using Citavi and it has options to insert citations directly into Libreoffice. I'm hoping I dont have to install Libreoffice so I can still carry it on my flashdrive

Thanks

When I tested this previously with Zotero, I unfortunately could not get it to interface with the portable version. Self-contained, portable software has loads of advantages but one of the disadvantages is lacking interface with related tools. Given the popularity of LibreOffice portable, you might put in a feature request, but they might see it as too small an audience.

Are there any active LibreOffice Portable users on the site? I'm getting a lot of crashes with LibreOffice and I'm using the more stable "Still" version. The most recent update didn't seem to impact that. I was using the installed version on one machine and fully portable version on my main computer. I bring it up here because the installer seems to crash very rarely.

I haven't lost any data using LibreOffice for years but it's annoying to click through all these little error message over and over again.

I'm trying really hard to make a go of the portable version rather than doing an install, both for the benefit of portable more broadly and just because I have tweaked the heck out my config and don't want to mess with re-adding / re-modifying.

I use X-LibreOffice. I doubt your crashes would be related to differences between LO Portable and X-LO.

It's possible something in your configuration causes those crashes. You could try backing up your config, then deleting like half of the files there and seeing if crashing continues. (If it does, the problem is likely somewhere in the remaining files; otherwise it would be the remaining ones). You could divide-and-conquer until you have narrowed it down enough.

But that's not very practical if your crashes aren't reproducible, since in that case it'll be hard to say if it's still crashing or not.

I'm not encountering crashes, my use of X-LO is very lightweight. I work with very simple spreadsheets, mostly in CSV format.

I removed LO on this system a while back due to issues with the drive. I'll check other portable installs on my other systems in the next few days and see if I have any crashes. I've been mostly using the most up to date version PortableApps has out. I see a .odt file listed in the pic, is that the file type your having issues with or others as well? If you give me a bit more info I'll see if I can reproduce the crash. I don't recall if I've had any while using LO in the recent past.

Some good suggestions. I'll try that, thanks.

I think I'm actually using it in a way that wasn't intended, specifically associating DOC/ODT/etc. files with LibreOffice. That might be at the root of the problems I'm having. I don't want to suggest that this program is anything but amazing as LO it's one of my favorite programs, but part of that involvement means that I've got to be part of the effort to notify and help clear out any bugs.

Anyway, if I'm going to write up some kind of reproducible issue, I should probably generate a proper bug report. I just wanted to see if it was just me.

I'm sorry about the slow update of winPenPack on X-LibreOffice and so I decided to look elsewhere.

I found PortableAppZ's LibreOffice: it offers a launcher for online and offline use.

Available languages:
English, Afrikaans, Arabic, Belarusian, Bulgarian, Bosnian, Catalan, Czech, Welsh, Danish, German, Greek, Spanish International, Estonian, Basque, Farsi, Finnish, French, Galician, Hebrew, Croatian, Hungarian, Indonesian, Icelandic, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Lithuanian, Latvian, Macedonian, Mongolian, Dutch, Norwegian Nynorsk, Polish, Portuguese, Portuguese BR, Romanian, Russian, Slovak, Slovenian, Albanian, Serbian, Swedish, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, Uzbek, Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional.

Online mode
1. Download the launcher and launch it
2. select the language you prefer
3. enter the build number you want to make portable.
--> the latest builds are Still: 7.1.6 and Fresh: 7.2.1

Offline mode
1. create a empty folder (i.e. C:\Temp or C:\downloads)
2. copy in this folder PortableAppZ launcher for LibreOffice and installer preferred
3. manually download installer preferred (32/64 bit) and put them near launcher and run launcher as above.
--> for download links see more down on LibreOffice repository

LibreOffice repository
1. main download folder: https://download.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/
2. 'stable' subfolder for Still and Fresh builds: https://download.documentfoundation.org ... ce/stable/
3. 'testing' subfolder for Pre-release builds: https://download.documentfoundation.org ... e/testing/

Every subfolder contains these sub-sub folders:
- deb (Debian Linux distros)
- mac (Mac OS-X)
- rpn (Redhat Linux distros: Fedora, CentOS, RHEL and openSuSE)
- win (Windows installers)

Inside '\win' select 32 or 64 bit installers:
(every installer is multilanguage)
- for 32 bit: https://download.documentfoundation.org ... in_x86.msi
- for 64 bit: https://download.documentfoundation.org ... in_x64.msi

You can also download a Pre-release build:
- main '\win' subfolder for Pre-releases: https://download.documentfoundation.org ... 7.2.2/win/
- for 32 bit Prerelease Fresh: https://download.documentfoundation.org ... in_x86.msi
- for 64 bit Prerelease Fresh: https://download.documentfoundation.org ... in_x64.msi

Current build numbers are:
- Still: 7.1.6.2
- Fresh: 7.2.1.2
- Prerelease Fresh: 7.2.2.1

A recent update to LibreOffice means file comparison works a lot better. To isn't a major change for most but it's something I've been looking for. The latest update includes a move detection feature (copy-paste) that includes images:

Image

This was a problem because, as recent as a few years ago, MS Word just identifying a moved item as text that's deleted and then inserted elsewhere. Whether or not they're similar is something you've got to look carefully for. And in long documents, this means:
  • It's harder to tell if it got moved to a section it doesn't belong
  • Whether a section that appears to be new was actually just moved up and doesn't need to be reviewed.
Unfortunately even minor changes like making one word plural will mean it's not detected, but that's still a big improvement.

There's also some new settings in the Options menu that unfortunately aren't yet fully explained by the help info.

EDIT: Old story but a good one on the move from MS Office to LibreOffice.

Hi
i have a problem with extra fonts
I would like to use some fonts without installing under w10
in the folder

Code: Select all

LibreOffice\App\DefaultData\fonts\
there is
For users not using the PortableApps.com Platform, you can add additional fonts to the LibreOfficePortable\Data\fonts folder for use with LibreOffice here. (Do not add fonts to the LibreOfficePortable\App\DefaultData\fonts folder or to the LibreOfficePortable\App\libreoffice\Basis\share\fonts\truetype folder)

Note that any fonts placed here will be available to other applications. If any other apps (including local apps) are making use of these fonts and don't properly stop when LibreOffice Portable is closed, you may be unable to eject your drive until you close those apps.
there is another folder

Code: Select all

LibreOffice\Data\fonts\
and other fonts folders

may i know if i want to use some fonts only for libreoffice without installing where have I to copy?
thanks

According to this page, that folder should be correct:

... not sure what's going wrong for you.

I've installed the fonts pack from PA without issue. You might want to post something to the PA forum on this: https://portableapps.com/forums/support ... e_portable
