A poster evidently didn't want to sign up to the forums to post this, so they put it under the notepad2 entry. Its way too long, so I'm going to downvote the entry and just paste what the author wrote. This technically belongs in the submission forum, but since the poster is both recommending the program and noting an install bug, I decided to post it in Discussion and move it later if necessary.

This version of Notepad2 has been modified from Florian Balmer's original version
using patches by Kai Liu and others.

Notable changes:
* Code folding
* Support for bookmarks
* Syntax highlighting support for AutoHotKey, AutoIt3, Bash, LaTeX, Lua, Ruby, Tcl, NSIS and Inno Setup scripts
* Native x86-64 support
* Support for registry-based Notepad replacement

Supported Operating Systems: Windows XP, Vista, 7 both 32-bit and 64-bit

If you are planning on installing this into your system...
DO NOT RUN THE INSTALLER FILE !!! it has a bug, and it may crash your system.
You will get an error pop-up and then everything freezes.
This happened on my Win XP w/SP2 box. The version I'm referring to is:
http://notepad2-mod.googlecode.com/file ... _Setup.exe

To install it without problems, just do this:
The EXE unpacks with 7-zip or WinRAR, so just right-click it and extract the files .
One of the unpacked files is named "notepad2.inf" .
Right click it and choose "install" from your context menu; Done .
It uninstalls at "Add-Remove-Programs" .

If you don't want to install it, just run the unpacked files; it is natively portable (INI file in AppDirectory) .

If you want all these additional features, why not just use Notepad++? Notepad2's strength was always its complete simplicity.

Some people may be looking for something in-between the feature-creep that notepad++ is, and the minimalism of notepad2.

Personally, i dont see how bookmark-support belongs into something like notepad2, but codefolding and more syntaxhighliters hardly make notepad2 come near the featureset of notepad++, right?
