FWIW, both AntiDupl 2.3.7 and 2.3.8 most recent versions are flagged by VirusTotal with a 3/55 score.
Previous versions (up to 2.3.6) all scored "clean" on VT 0/55 score

This was my duplicate image finder of choice.
It still is a program I use but I think Awesome duplicate photo finder is a little better.
Has anyone come across any others (eg Panaustik)

I'm getting a slightly different result with 7/70: https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/c30 ... /detection ... but that is a little higher than I'd prefer. Hopefully additional analysis in the coming weeks will bring that down.

Yeah VT has been very jealous about how it handles requests and contributions -- they seem to be pointing everything to their web interface so they can get some amount of user data from posters. I wouldn't be surprised if they turned off all other options besides the website interface at some point.

I actually think the VirusTotal effort is one function provided by Google that is indeed a positive effect, even with frustrations like this one. But on the issue of monopolies, I read a great article recently on the topic:

Google is indeed a pretty nifty search tool. But it is not that much better than Yahoo or Bing — indeed, its algorithm is so present-biased that I find DuckDuckGo a superior tool when looking for less immediate material. What gives it roughly 80 percent of the online search traffic is first mover advantage.

The upshot here is that both Google's overwhelming search dominance and their profitable exploitation thereof are almost wholly unmerited in terms of their actual product. Google is a fine tool, but what defines the company is luck. Its profits come from a largely unearned strategic position within a socially-created communication medium.

And I wholeheartedly agree... there are a lot of other pluses they can claim, too.

It's just that at the unique scale they operate, their tiny failures become earth wrenching juggernauts.
