Submit portable freeware that you find here. It helps if you include information like description, extraction instruction, Unicode support, whether it writes to the registry, and so on.

Old topic update: development still active, QText v4.10 released (dated 2015-12-31; changelog is at http://www.medo64.com/qtext/history/).

[QText] ... is similar to notepad which can be brought from tray when needed but has also auto-save thing going on. Just ideal for taking notes.

Nimble with a minimal set of features -- active URLs deserve highlight. Portability untested, but settings are kept in a 'Data' sub-folder at QText location.

QText no-install ZIP download can be found at http://www.medo64.com/qtext/.

I like the minimalist interface but I really need an editor that can handle bullets (and nested bullets). Also, I don't think it's portable yet, though I didn't setup the test correctly and I can't tell where it's writing settings.

No, there is only an option to save settings to the registry.

From my testing, if you don't click 'Yes' on that dialog, QText will keep settings where I found them... 8)

Oh, really? What settings are saved in the Data sub-folder?

Looks like program tabs and content...

So do you agree that the application settings can only be saved to the registry?

If you don't press 'Yes' on said dialog, there are no settings to be saved: "Options" are all disabled -- QText retains its defaults with full functionality (the defaults are mostly sensible and none breaks portability).

Once I suggested saving setting in program folder for the portable version and after some time the developer was kind to implement this option, currently (as of QText version 4.30) settings are saved in QText.cfg file inside program folder.

Since QText is now portable and stealth it is ready for submission to the database.

Good lord, that's almost 12 years since initial post to finally getting a portable version. Wow.
In fact prior to version 4.20 QText was, I would say, semi-portable- if no settings were saved it was portable. I first contacted the developer- Josip Medved or Medo, requesting fully portable version on Fri, May 16, 2014. He didn't respond immediately but saved my message and when he had time he replied and also he took into consideration all my suggestions. So I appreciate his attitude and work. Anyway, in my opinion QText has improved a lot- it is very handy for taking brief temporary notes- it is a kind of enhanced notepad with tabbed interface which saves notes (tabs) in plain text or in rich text. It is now equipped with reminders, screen:

The notes can be organized into folders, screen:

and the users can add as many folders as they may need, screen:

So, in my opinion, QText is nice and useful program and it is open source to boot.

Thanks.

No recent updates (since 2019) but the changelog lists a portable version (https://www.medo64.com/qtext/history/), which I guess means the "zipped version". Unfortunately in my tests, it's still not writing all settings to the local folder. Still not portable.

Latest DotNET QText is v4.53 (last changelog only for v4.52: https://www.medo64.com/qtext/history/).

Pretty much portable in my brief testing, didn't find any traces (settings in program sub-folder by default)...

Note there's a newer Qt-based QText pre-release v4.99.27 from 2023-05-28 at Github with some interesting features -- chiefly Markdown support (marked as "Experimental" in "Settings").

Interestingly, both versions can be run concurrently.
