3 Programs from file.net

#1 Post by Wolfghost »

Last Changed Files

Image

The freeware Last Changed Files finds the 100 recent changed files on your hard disk or within multiple subdirectories. Once you start Last Changed Files, the software automatically scans your hard drive and shows you the top 100 new created or last changed files on your hard disk. You see the following columns in the top 100 largest files list: file name, full folder path, file size and date of last change.

Furthermore you can select another drive or a specific directory (including subdirectories) if you want. The file finder software starts automatically to scan your selected hard disk or folder. Last Changed Files only takes less than 30 seconds to scan 200 GB. You can define an exclude list of folders, which will not be scanned.

Features
doesn't require runtimes
doesn't require installation
doesn't write to the registry
doesn't modify files outside of its own directories
isn't adware

System requirements
Windows Vista, XP, 2000, 2003, NT
only 0.3 MB free disk space

Windows Process Viewer

The free File.net Windows Process Viewer lists all active Windows processes on your computer. The software displays the Windows file name, full folder path and file size for each Windows task in the active Windows processes list. If you click a process, the file checker connects to the File.net online database for additional process information including the real name of the process and the name of the developer. Additionally, you see the default and expected folder path. So you can check if your process is the original Windows system process in the right folder or if it's a fake, trojan process. Often attacked Windows files are svchost.exe, lsass.exe, alg.exe, ctfmon.exe, csrss.exe, wmiprvse.exe, wisptis.exe and wuauclt.exe.

File.net's Windows Process Viewer advantages over the Windows Task Manager: The freeware displays the full path name, the expected folder, the most understandable name of the process and the manufacturer.

Features
doesn't require runtimes
doesn't require installation
doesn't write to the registry
doesn't modify files outside of its own directories
isn't adware

System requirements
Windows Vista, XP, 2000, 2003, NT
only 0.3 MB free disk space

Largest Files Finder

The freeware Largest Files Finder finds the 100 largest files on your hard disk or within multiple subdirectories. If you need more free disk space, simply run that freeware and see what files can be deleted to get more free disk space.

Furthermore you can select another drive or a directory if you want. The file finder software starts automatically to scan your selected hard disk or folder. Largest Files Finder only needs 60 seconds for a complete 200 GB disk scan.

I never thought of that but its a great way to answer the question "what is my computer doing," as well as tracking down odd files you've been working on. Its a great idea, although I wonder if "Everything" (http://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=1479) would do that as well (and do the whole drive -- not just 100 at a time).
