M3U Dropper
Re: M3U Dropper
Portability confirmed 100%
Creates 'M3U Dropper.m3udrop' configuration file containing drive-less paths to it's own config file,
default media player, media player list, playlist file, no files or folders created outside it's own folder.
Standard windows MRUs and Dialogs created in registry; tested with Regshot.
I ran it on my 'local portable partition' and dragged/dropped my Beatles collection (15 albums),
it created a Playlist.m3u file with with driveless paths to each album.
Moved M3U Dropper, it's config file and the Playlist.m3u to my external drive (mirrored local portable partition)
ran from there and it immediately opened the Playlist.m3u file, double click any album in the list and it opened only
that album (very cool), checked in task manager and everything was loaded from my external drive (diff drive letter).
Definitely belongs in the database!

If you add to the database then we can test and vote.

App is now at v0.572
Changes:
* The list can now be sorted by filename, full path or randomized.
* The next selected item can be focused.
* Improved folder dropping abilities, including recursion and file matching.
* Selected items can be moved to the top of the list.
* All drops are sorted.
* .exe files are always launched generically.

All excellent.

As in like a batch file setup?

Re: M3U Dropper
Well, the Dropper can launch any files, not just media files. So, it's possible to have a bunch of .exe files instead of .mp3's or whatever, each of which can be launched with a double click.
Obviously, sending an .exe file to a media player is a bad idea.

Re: M3U Dropper
Yeah that does seem a bit weird but I can picture it future-proofing the software to make sure than any and all file types that a media player will handle. If tomorrow the file type "VX1V" (or whatever) comes out, M3U will handle it.flector wrote:Well, the Dropper can launch any files, not just media files. Also, being able to view non-media file types has some appeal. For example, both Universal Veiwer and XnView both view hundreds of file types and not just media files. Hopefully they (or programs like them) will view the files in a specific order as prompted by an M3U file.
This brings up the question of how an eventual viewer would handle an M3U file with JPG or PNG files listed? As a slideshow? Or perhaps a program that rotates the files frequently in some kind of cycle for looking at log files (ala Tail)?
As for EXE files, its possible there are self-contained viewer programs that you might wish to view in order. I've seen several PDF-to-EXE file converters out there.
Anyway, some ideas on where it could go.
(This is my 500th post ... woo hoo)

Updated. Note about import capability added to description.
Re: M3U Dropper
App is now at v0.575.
It has now a fully portable recent file (MRU) list. Recently opened .m3udrop files can be opened with Ctrl+#. The most recent file pops to the top of the list, so (for example) the three most recent files can be easily reopened in order by pressing Ctrl+3 repeatedly.

Re: M3U Dropper
Updated. Also, an animated GIF screenshot has been added that will hopefully better demonstrate some of the features.
Thanks for the continued work on this program.
