Submit portable freeware that you find here. It helps if you include information like description, extraction instruction, Unicode support, whether it writes to the registry, and so on.

Lightscreen - Screencapture tool

#1 Post by Gmacri »

:) Lightscreen is a simple tool to automate the tedious process of saving and cataloging screenshots, it operates as a hidden background process that is invoked with one (or multiple) hotkeys and then saves a screenshot file to disk according to the user's preferences.

Main Features

* Can execute at Windows startup (hidden or displaying the main window).
* System tray icon for easy access.
* Five configurable actions, each with it's own hotkey (screen, window, area, etc).
* Multiple image formats (PNG, JPEG, etc) and image quality selector.
* A notification when the screenshot is taken.
* Screenshot delay

Settings are not portable - they're saved in the registry under
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\user\current\software\K\Lightscreen\options

Again, Gmacri, I urge you to read the "about" page and the FAQ...

Yes I agree with Checker the link to the portable version
Is in the Web page of PortableApps:

http://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/ ... n_portable

May be the prestigious page of Portable Apps is also wrong?
May be Ashghost is trying the no portable version, ....or may be he is right.?,
I don't know.
In my PC I don't found in the registry the key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\user\current\software\K\Lightscreen\options

Hey Ashghost! If I'm wrong, please forgive me, I'm only trying to help.

Gmacri, I'm sure the PortableApps version is portable, but you linked to the standard version, so that was what I tried.

So, thanks, Gmacri, for the submission, and thanks, Checker, for linking to the version that Gmacri was referring to. :)

Found a bug and workaround in this program:

If you choose to save to clipboard in the Advanced tab, you must still have "File" checked in the "General" tab. To avoid writing a file, also click "Choose where and how to save a screenshot" and when prompted, just hit escape.

Contacted author.

Edit: user airplus over on portableapps.com already figured this out, although he didn't list a workaround.

Despite bug mentioned above, I'm impressed with this program. Some good features and very easy to use. Glad to finally have a screencap program I can take to work. (Although I definitely believe in paying for good software and would do so for PicPick in an instant, the software policies I've had at some jobs where using outside commercial software is sketchy. Its easier to lobby for open software.)

Lightscreen at version 2.1, changes:
- Updated to the newest imgur API version (old one is getting deprecated really soon), can now authenticate and upload to albums.
- Minor UI tweaks, configuration export/import.
- Updated to Qt 5.5.1
- New installer! You can now install portable Lightscreen from it, just select "portable mode" and you're good to go.
Note that the installer now offers Portable mode installation and an archived portable version is no longer provided. However the installer can be extracted. The PortableApps version of Lightscreen has also been updated to the latest version (2.1).

Note that the Lightscreen installer requires admin rights, even to install in portable mode. It can not be extracted with 7-Zip 15.14 in my testing: "Can not open file '...' as archive"
