wow what a lot of work and effort went into this, thanks for taking the time!
I personaly dont expect the poster to sytematically check and comment on how to set up each prog to get it to workin a portable way etc. There is just too much. each reader will have to use their own judgment on what they try etc.

is a utility to completely blank the screen except for a rectangular area selected by the user. This is especially useful for watching videos on your computer without being distracted by other programs.

Found another one: I just tested "Notify" as I was interested in the program description, only to find it requires command-line arguments with the directory you want to monitor. Ugh.

Wish I'd seen ShareWatch earlier. I was running a Windows file server once upon a time and that would have really worked well. http://www.stevemiller.net/sharewatch/ For the most part I've switched over any file serving jobs to to FileZilla Server.

Old thread update: I recently tested out MonitorES energy saver tool because it has a simple functionality that should have been available long ago: blank the screen, mute audio, and pause media players upon screen lock.
