Fotografix is an image editor that can be used for digital image enhancement, photo retouching and graphic design. As it is quite small and does not require installation, it can be run off a USB drive and hence can act as a substitute when other image editors are not readily available.

Features

* Support for a wide range of image formats
* Layers allow for non-destructive editing
* Scripts enable automation of frequent tasks

A very strong lifehacker review of this software makes me want to give it a try:

Not bad for a ~700kb program!
Has layers and many tools you'd associate with Photoshop.

Minor cons: Uses Windows for the color and font management.
is it stealth? ;)

Thank you Guinness!
I think I will keep both photofiltre and Fotografix on my USB key.
They have complementary qualities.

Old topic update: current Fotografix version (v2.0.3, released 2013-11-17) is available at http://lmadhavan.com/software/fotografix2/...

Note: the author considers v1.5 to be latest stable; v2.0.3 is a Fotografix 2 "Preview"...
