Console Calculator

Submit portable freeware that you find here. It helps if you include information like description, extraction instruction, Unicode support, whether it writes to the registry, and so on.

This is a neat little app, but unfortunately, it writes tons of settings to the Windows registry.

I think you should look at this again. I just discovered this app today on the net while looking for an alternative inline calculator to tabbycalc or the one in minipad2 (both dont support high precision, among other things). The current version creates an .ini file in the app dir, and from what i can see, all its settings are stored in it. It may still write stuff to the registry - haven't checked that - so it may possibly not be stealth - but it does seem to be portable now.

I just ran the new version through RegFromApp (http://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=1433) and OpenFilesView (http://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=1030) and I cannot find any files or registry settings being created or modified, except for the write to the .ini file when I played with it for a few minutes just now.

The last domain of the author, http://www.zoesoft.com, has expired three days ago. I have a copy of Console Calculator 3.0.2, the last version. I recompressed it and uploaded it here:

http://users.metropolia.fi/~jyrkive/tie ... /CCalc.zip (272 kB)

It's always sad when good software dies... :(

@SYSTEM

Thanks for the heads up on this, I've been using 3.0.1 and wasn't aware there was an update.

Do you remember; if any, what changes significant to calculations.

I noticed a couple of changes (unrelated to calculations), for instance the 'Base Context Menu' popup was
missing a space in "HEX(16)" > "HEX (16)", the 'Help' popup now has "Purchase CCalc..." in it and there's a
new parameter in the ini file (financed=2), I believe this represents decimal places for 'Financial' in the
'Scientific Notations' dropdown in the 'Settings' menu (it defaulted to 10 in 3.0.1).

This is my favorite calc; I also use SpeedCrunch (Homepage) the 0.11-alpha version.

Did you know you included your 'CCalc_functions.txt' file in the archive?

The original archive (3.0.1) only contains the program and html help file.

Oops. I thought CCalc_functions.txt is there by default. I should have actually opened the file...

I'll re-upload the archive after several hours (with CCalc_functions.txt absent).

Edit: Done.

I remember a couple of changes, but neither of them is related to calculations.

CCalc help file wrote:Financial: Constant number of decimal places. Scientific notation is never used.
I remember one of the changes was related to the 'Financial' setting. Most likely the improvement is ability to choose the number of decimal places.

Another change was improved Wine compatibility. The author was planning a Mac version of Console Calculator (based on Wine).

The above is everything I remember about the changes in 3.0.2. :?

I like Console Calculator as well. I use it whenever I need to calculate a lot of things in a row and I'm running Windows. Under GNU/Linux I use SpeedCrunch, as it came with the distribution I use.

Thanks for link to the latest 3.02 version

The changelog for 3.02 from google cache :
Monday July 5, 2010

* Added some tweaks for better Wine compatibility.
* Cleaned up menu items a bit.
* Financial mode automatically chooses appropriate significant figures.
* (2010-07-05)

I've added the manual from google cache below, hope it is readable on the forum (Update: I cp'ed the body part of the htm page).
The google cache link is:
http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/s ... =firefox-a)

I am really hoping the domain expiration is just an administrative mistake, this is one of the few programs I gladly payed for :(

You need to trim some fat off the URL, try it now.
The google cache link is:

Thank you.

I have edited the archive as well (CCalc_functions.txt is no longer included).
