Has definitely come a long way. Some of the functions don't seem to work but its still in the early stages and most of the important primary functions work fine. Really looking forward to future updates.

Keep up the good work!

Another bugfix-release!

Changed in version 0.2.1:

Many thanks to the bugreporters. Special thanks go to Fabian for fixing the fileencryption bug.

I edited the entry down a bit to fit more with the site's format.

I didn't vote for it simply because I don't have the ability to test portability. I think the program itself is great.

Take feature requests?
  • Drag and drop capabilities. Especially to encrypt / decrypt text, but would also be nice for files as well as import public and private keys.
  • Some kind of help menu option that explains how this all works. Maybe just pointing to http://gpg4usb.cpunk.de/docu.html [Edit: this has been added]
  • Global encrypt/decrypt/import key that will encrypt/decrypt whatever is on the clipboard (e.g. CTRL+ALT+G)
Some kind of "advanced" mode with:
  • Ability to sign text/files [Edit: this has been added]
  • Backup secret key
  • Symmetric (regular) encryption
  • Global encrypt/decrypt key active while the program is active
  • Password caching options (always, for X minutes, never)

Thanks a lot for your feature requests, webfork!

Some of them are already on our ToDo-list, like key-backup, signing...

Drag and drop capabilities would we very nice, indeed - configurable password-caching, too.
We'll add this to our list!

I don't think, that symmetric encryption will be added soon - possibly never, because it can get more confusing with symmetric AND asymmetric possibilities.
btw: asymmetric encryption should be preferred because of security reasons.

I'm glad my suggestions were useful. I hope very much that it enables people to take advantage of free and easy security.

Leaving symmetric out makes sense as it would probably just confuse beginners. The only *real* reason to include it is just to have kind of an all-in-one encryption tool, which isn't really the goal here.

Still, there are some advantages to symmetric encryption including speed and file size, but its certainly true that its far down on the list.

New Release versin 0.2.2

#26 Post by gpg4usb »

Encodings, charsets and Шифрование: We rounded up a new release, repaired bugs dealing with non ascii encodings and also bring you a new translation. Thanks to Kirill you are now able to use gpg4usb with a russian interface. Furthermore you are now able to view key-properties and export private keys.

Added features in version 0.2.2: http://gpg4usb.cpunk.de/

* Added key-property-dialog in key management
* Added export of private key
* Added russian translation
* Added warn message for key deletion

Additionally the following bugs were fixed in version 0.2.2:

* Fixed the keydb not found error, when umlauts, cyrillic and other special characters are in the pathname.
* Set minimum keysize to 768 Bit (required by gnupg for el-gamal subkey)
* Keysize-Bug fixed. Now when generating a key, the key has correct size
NOTE: When you created a key with an earlier version of gpg4usb, you should be aware, that it may only has a keysize of 1024 Bit. You can check this with the key-property dialog.

Many thanks to the bugreporters. Special thanks go to Kirill for russian translation and lots of testing on russian Windows.

Works beautifully. Thanks for your continued work on this.

Kudos on:

* Key minimum setup works. I set it to 512 and it automatically made it 1024
* Key delete confirmation works
* Key properties menu looks great

Problems:

* Hiding private key export functionality in the key properties dialog is kind of confusing.

Re: gpg4usb v0.2.3 is out

#28 Post by gpg4usb »

New in Version 0.2.3: http://gpg4usb.cpunk.de/

Settings, Qt 4.5 and Português do Brasil: We added a settings dialog, fixed a bug in file encryption and added Brazilian translation (many thanks to Alessandro for this). Furthermore we updated to Qt 4.5.

Added features in version 0.2.3:
  • Added settings dialog
  • Added brazilian translation
The following bugfixes/changes were made in version 0.2.3:
  • Updated to Qt 4.5
  • Fixed bug in file encryption, that file is encrypted for checked, not the selected keys.
Again many thanks to the bugreporters. This time goes a special thanks to Alessandro for brazilian translation.

Tested the latest version and very happy with it -- program is really coming together.

Its important to have something that can encrypt text if you have to post something to a forum or over IM. So far the best program for that on PFW was ClipSecure http://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=1174 and GPG4USB already beats that program in terms of simplicity and ease-of-use. (Note that both ClipSecure and GPG4USB can encrypt files too)
