Has anyone actually tested this software to see if it speeds up file transfers?

~9,000 small files, ~600 megs
NTFS flash drive (compressed data)
Vista Business Basic

Vista normal drag-and-drop copy: 3 minutes
FastCopy: 3.5 minutes

If the copy speed had been *close* I could have said that this was just a strange config that can't really be optimized. Because Vista's internal copy soundly beat FastCopy by 15%, I'm inclined to think FC isn't doing what its advertised to do. There's no doubt that FastCopy has some cool extra features but the fast part is the name of the software.

One instance is very far from comprehensive -- has anyone else run tests of their own? What about similar software like Teracopy?

I like TeraCopy (also portable, if you put a File named "portable" in the TeraCopy Directory)

If you have many small Files, it reads them at once, until it's buffer is full, what only happens, if the Destination disk is slower than the Source Disk.

The most Awesome two Features are: Can replace the Windows Explorer Copy and Move Action (if installed and not portable) and it detects the Paths in opened Windows Explorer, so you can also select them in TeraCopy, and save Paths in your Favorites if you use them Much.

It is free for non-commercial use.

Download: http://blog.codesector.com/category/cod ... /teracopy/
HOWTO:
1. Install
2. COPY to your portable Folder
3. uninstall the Application. (this is why we COPIED it)
4. Create a new File in the Portable TeraCopy Folder named "Portable" (content of File doesn't matter)
5. Launch TeraCopy.exe
6. You're done. (The Program should create a Options.ini File) in the Folder

My quick test:

System: WinXPProSP3x86
CPU: AMD Turion(tm) X2 Ultra Dual-Core Mobile ZM-80, idle
HDD: Hitachi HTS543232L9A3 SCSI Disk Device, 320GB, C:\, D:\
AntiVirus: Avira AV Free - guard on

Test subject: contents of "D:\folder\" = 4.214 files, 396 folders = 316 MB (332.157.578 bytes)
Target folder: "C:\test\"

Used apps have default settings.

Results:
1. winxp method = 2.21 min
2. supercopier 2b1.9 = 2.12 min
3. teracopy 2.07b = 1.27 min
4. fastcopy = 1.24 min

I wouldn't use a separate app for copy\move process if winxp' method had pause\resume, speed display, separate operation log.

My habits: I use system's method 90% of the time, but use SuperCopier2 for 90% of my data. Meaning there is no point of using (for me) anything else than xp's method most of the time (small amounts of data copied\moved), but when I backup data using external drive, or usb flash drives I use SuperCopier2.

P.S. I should do 3 more tests: one using a single big file and same 2 using my external HDD, but only if I have time!

Cheers! :)

I use TeraCopy as a replacement for the inbuilt Windows Copy/Move simply because it verifies the hash fingerprint. I chose TeraCopy over Fastopy - LifeHacker I like how I can use Ctrl + C / Ctrl + X with no right-clicking or commands.

I use FastCopy when creating Batch files as a replacement for COPY/XCOPY, again for the hash verification.

Personally its not how fast they can Copy/Move (pretty much the majority are around the 1.40min mark,) its how well they Copy/Move and what safety measures are in place.

The last time I used TeraCopy, it deleted alternate data stream (ADS). Has this been fixed?

I must say that, despite being slower than other copiers, I seem to come back to this program over time for two primary features:

1. The verification feature, which double checks that the data was sent properly.
2. The speed controls, which let me turn down a transfer to a crawl so it doesn't interfere with something else I'm doing.

Woah it got an update!! I'm surprised! I'm a bit sad he does not really respond to emails since I sent him an updated source code that cleans up the funny English years ago as well as making the text spacings all consistent. Oh well, the English is still understandable so no problem there. Either way, I simply adore this program since it works so well and stable and from my experiences, never froze or does other weird things like TeraCopy.

I still like FastCopy's unique features ...

# can copy Symlinks/Junctions correctly
# can DELETE locked Systemfolders e.g. System Volume Information and all others blocked by Windows
Therefore: ''I think twice, before deleting anything'' 8)

REQUEST: A ''Pause'' Option would be fine.

Hello, I am the author.
I am sorry for my poor English :-)
I want to correct GUI and help file.

By the way, If you move "Speed slider" to left end, FastCopy will be "suspend" mode.
