RustDesk [remote desktop utility]

Submit portable freeware that you find here. It helps if you include information like description, extraction instruction, Unicode support, whether it writes to the registry, and so on.

RustDesk [remote desktop utility]

#1 Post by dJeePe »

Hello,

I have used the portablefreeware site many times ... I add my stone to the building by proposing the addition of a software that I find well done and very simple :

rustdesk
"Open source virtual / remote desktop infrastructure for everyone!
A remote desktop software, the open source TeamViewer alternative, works out of the box, no configuration required. You have full control of your data, with no concerns about security. You can use our public rendezvous/replay server, or self-hosting, or write your own server."

What more can I say than this description from rustdesk.com?

Thanks and welcome to the site ... looks very interesting:
Open source virtual / remote desktop infrastructure for everyone! The open source TeamViewer alternative. Display and control your PC and Android devices from anywhere at anytime.
Looks like there's a good chance it's portable and efforts around privacy and security are definitely welcome in this space:
Works out of the box, no configuration required. You have full control of your data, with no concerns about security. You can use our rendezvous/relay server, set up your own, or write your own rendezvous/relay server.

I just came across RustDesk myself and wanted to see if anyone posted about it on TPFC and sure enough, someone already did! :)

Just did a quick test and RustDesk is not stealth. Saves settings in %appdata%\RustDesk\ and also saves a locally-extracted version to %localappdata%\rustdesk\. Someone else already posted about this here: https://github.com/rustdesk/rustdesk/issues/381. I plan to do some more testing as a TeamViewer replacement in the future, so hopefully I can write more about it then.

Teamviewer now requires creating a Teamviewer account in order to remote into another PC so I'm looking for alternatives.

RustDesk works well, but it isn't stealth. It writes to both %appdata% and %localappdata%. If JTH is reading, RustDesk would be a great choice for a new PA.com app.
is it stealth? ;)
