Opal - relaxing audio

#1 Post by webfork »

NOTE: this is distinct from OpalCalc math calculator.

---

A very nice but bulky relaxing sounds program. Includes either meditation or familiar ambient noises like nature and office. Also includes a timer (when enabled, will shut off after an hour by default).

Resources: 70 megs disk space, 240 megs of RAM

Steps: Download portable version, unzip, and launch opal.exe

Status: Portable, writes very minor settings to the local folder in opal.properties

It appears possible to modify the config file and set autoUpdate=false to autoUpdate=false to prevent update checking.

License: Open source, GPLv3

Same here. It works nicely now. At first, it popped an error message, telling me that it could not find the .cfg file in the app-folder. So I simply created a subdir "app" and put the opal.cfg into it. That's all it took to get it running.

I have added Opal to the database:

Occasionally, I find it easier to sleep with the help of some background noise. I usually go to YouTube and find some hour-plus long background noise to play. This program is a nice alternative when the need arises.

My only complaint is the size of the program: 85MB, of which 81MB is the runtime (looks like an embedded Java runtime).

Also, auto-update does not work for me. An error message is displayed:

This can be "fixed" by disabling auto-update under Tools, Settings (I disable auto-update for most of my portable apps anyway).
