MusicPlayer2

#1 Post by smaragdus »

Preamble
When a developer implements a feature I have suggested I feel obliged to show my gratitude by reviewing his program. This is the case with MusicPlayer2 which until version 2.62 was available only in Chinese. I do not speak Chinese yet I decided to have a look at the program, it turned out to be an excellent audio player so I requested English translation and within two weeks the developer released a new version (2.63) fully translated into English. The program is portable by default, slim, light, feature-rich and highly customizable, it supports most common audio formats (including Cue sheets) so it quickly became one of my favourite audio players.

@billon
Thank you for the kind welcome.
In short- there are some programs I have to review as their developers were kind to implement my suggestions.
I forgot to mention that the player looks better for me when Use album cover as background is disabled. I don't have time to produce new screen-shots.

Nice find! :mrgreen:

Before first run, create config.ini in the program's directory and paste:

Code: Select all

[general]
check_update_when_start = false

You can download more add-ons here.
Put OptimFROG.dll and tak_deco_lib.dll in the player's root folder, not in the Plugins folder.
You can download latest "stuff" versions of BASS and add-ons by changing the extension in add-on's name from DLL to ZIP, like:
https://www.un4seen.com/stuff/bass.zip
https://www.un4seen.com/stuff/bassflac.zip
https://www.un4seen.com/stuff/bass_aac.zip
etc.

Wish-list: playlists support, radio support, multiply playlist - tabbed ideally, maybe more visualisations.

Actually it should be added to the database.

Usage notes:

* Looks great. I like how it handles album art and the light and dark overlays it uses. Something I'd like to see other programs use.

* Exceedingly low CPU usage and only 6 megs of RAM on my Win7x86 system. Takes up 8.7 megs of disk space (uncompressed).
