[Webxpace] Web Downloader

Submit portable freeware that you find here. It helps if you include information like description, extraction instruction, Unicode support, whether it writes to the registry, and so on.

[Webxpace] Web Downloader

#1 Post by cmmehl »

Here is another of those small and useful marvels that fit so well on the USB-stick: Web Downloader from Jose Falcao.

The author wrote it intentionally as a no-install, but initially didn't consider its use on a USB-stick, reason for which the downloadpaths messed up after each change of the USB's drive-letter. After some correspondence, he modified it to accept relative paths - so now downloads can be saved just anywhere on the stick :-)

Here is the info:

Category: Internet / Download Managers

Synopsis: Manage all your Internet downloads; drag and drop links to it's window, copy from clipboard, choose how fast and how many simultaneous downloads, were to save files to, change file names, etc. You can also stop and resume downloads at will, and use multiple threads for faster downloads. Special highlight: can make use of relative paths for the download directories.

Writes settings to: Application folder

How to extract: Download the ZIP file and extract to a folder of your choice. Launch the program by double-clicking on WebDownload.exe.

License: Freeware

System Requirements: Win95 / Win98 / WinME / WinNT / Win2K / WinXP

Size on Disk: 192 kb

Does it not look green on your monitor?

Edit: I tested it again and it's still Portable, what does your test show?

I updated Porta'Menu entry yesterday and tested Web Downloader at the same time. I remember a registry entry... going to retest... "Hold your horses"

Writes to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\WebDownload

Forgot to mention that it requires admin rights (and so is Porta'Menu).

I didn't get that registry key on Windows XP SP3. I'll re-re test hitting every settings option there is.

I checked every option and even downloaded a couple of files and still I can't replicate that registry key. Plus, I have Admin rights.

I am on Win 7 64-bit. Did you download anything with it? Also, did you test it in a sandbox/virtual environment?

Anyone else willing to test?

Yes, I did download, see previous comment. Please refer to this thread of how I test Portable applications.

@guinness

I get this key every single time I run Web Downloader. Can you search the registry for that key after you exit Web Downloader (before you clear the sandbox). Maybe use something else than System Explorer.

Oh, thanks joby_toss. I was going nuts over this. Is it just a Win 7 64-bit issue?

Yeh I did that and nothing still. Perhaps we're back to the same problem as with TrueCrypt.
