@joby_toss
This is not a problem for you?
To be able to serve you, our users and friends, in the best possible way, we need to know a little about you. We need to know how many you are, what HW/OS you have and where in the world and which language you use. This helps us make the right priorities on our resources. Starting with this build, Vivaldi will connect with our servers for this purpose only once per day. We do not collect any usage data. So, on first run Vivaldi generates a unique ID for your installation.
Then, every 24 hours, your browser, if running, will send via https, the following info:
- The unique user ID
- Browser user agent
- CPU architecture
- Screen Resolution
- Accept Language
This is an excerpt from Vivaldi change log /New in version 1.0.167.2 Snapshot (May 5th, 2015)/

For reference, the thing smaragdus is referencing is here: https://vivaldi.net/en-US/teamblog/28-s ... statistics#!
To be able to serve you, our users and friends, in the best possible way, we need to know a little about you.
I acknowledge it's important to know what kind of hardware your users have but I've gotta say that -- for a company that's very likely making most of it's money from browser referrals and selling user data -- it's unlikely they're only using it for development and prioritization.

Regardless, they need to make it opt-out ala Firefox: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/fi ... owser-perf ... I couldn't find anything on the status of unique user IDs or disabling this in Chrome.

A few builds ago there were some changes regarding Vivaldi's portability. Now it doesn't matter what the stp.viv file content is ("// Vivaldi Standalone" by default), the folder structure is the same: main installation folder with Application (where vivaldi.exe is) and User Data (where the user profile is) sub-folders.
I can't find a way to change this behavior, as Vivaldi doesn't read the stp.viv file content anymore, it just needs to know it's there.

Strangers calling people 'friends' always makes me think someone is trying to dupe them. Or maybe it just reminds me of spam :p

'This product is so right for you, friend.'

'Friend, I'd like to introduce you to this this fantastic opportunity.'

'We'd like to be able to server you better, friend. First we just need your credit card details...'

It seems Vivaldi is finally out of Beta:
https://vivaldi.net/en-US/teamblog/102- ... finale-1-0
It still lacks many real Opera (versions 11/12) features.
I can't see an option to disable prompt for saving passwords.

I hope PA.c is going to release their version soon, as I don't like the portability status of this one right now (folder structure, leftovers...).
Doesn't feel as smooth as Slimjet, but I found the option to remove the "Close tab" button, so I'm happy overall! :)

I asked the Vivaldi folks about doing it a while back and never heard from them. I dropped them another note with the details to their partnership team today.

Such a beautiful and promising browser definitely deserves the PAF treatment.

I sure hope they let John 'paf the app'. If they do, I will move from FF to Vivaldi.
