i think i got rid of all the extra stuff and its still ~120 MB while the old Opera 12 was only 26 MB. :(

hopefully they can slim it down a little bit.

They won't be able to slim it down. With Opera 12, it's their own homegrown engine. With Vivaldi, they're using Chrome's Blink engine and that thing is large. I'm sure that they do want to use their own engine but Opera owns the right to it so they had to use another engine or write their own but writing their own would not be worth it at this point. So just use Chrome's engine and make a GUI around it that's 5 times better than Chrome, Opera, or any other Chrome derivatives out there heh.

would be nice if they could buy the old Opera engine, maybe with a kickstarter campaign or something.
prob too late now though.

Although Presto had some real advantages (it was really the original mobile browser), getting it up to speed would be an expensive and time-consuming process with ongoing costs to try and keep up with Gecko, Blink/Webkit, and Trident.

Would definitely like to see a kickstarter for open sourcing the code.

i dont understand enough of what it takes to keep the engine updated. just sad to see that 12.16 is eventually going to be obsolete. Nothing else i've tried is even close to its quickness on my netbook. IE is nightmare to work with and even firefox isnt too snappy. never tried a google browser and prob wont.

There would be no point. Blink is a far better engine than Presto. Blink is faster and supports more Web standards.

Good job I have been on hiatus. Now I have to go back to the drawing board again.
