BeeBEEP portable:
BeeBEEP is portable by design- settings are saved in INI file (beebeep.ini) inside program folder. Download the archive, extract it and run beebeep.exe.

BeeBEEP license:
BeeBEEP is open source software licensed under GNU GPL version 3 (or later):
BeeBEEP 3.0.6 - 2016-05-11 - license.png
BeeBEEP source code can be downloaded from SourceForge.

BeeBEEP note:
From version 3.0.2 on BeeBEEP comes in two flavours- Qt4 (for Windows XP) & Qt5.
BeeBEEP games can be downloaded from SourceForge.
BeeBEEP is an amazing LAN messenger- it is cross platform, it has a nice GUI, it is packed with features, it is frequently updated. In my opinion BeeBEEP is better than most (if not all) commercial alternatives. I can see that it is created and maintained with devotion and love.
I would be glad if I am Baas or someone else confirms that BeeBEEP is portable.

Yes, it's portable. It even accepts manual relative paths in the .ini file. It's a very nice app!

ShareBox: new feature in beta (can share files like dropbox with all users connected)
https://sourceforge.net/p/beebeep/code/ ... NGELOG.txt

This is close to something I've been looking for but, apart from Retroshare, does anyone know of a program beyond where you can share an entire folder (essentially becoming a file server) instead of just one file? Just about every program that I use requires that the other person has and ask them to send it to you, or that you run some kind of a dedicated program (e.g. FTP server).

IRC has had this in terms of fservers (I could swear they have another name) for at least 20 years. How has this not come to LAN or other messenger tools with file share support?

I tested out the between a Mac and Windows client and was thrilled. The ability to quickly and easily setup a messaging and a file server over a local network is extremely useful, and will likely be on every machine I use going forward. As this isn't clearly spelled out on the website:

How to enable the BeeBEEP file server

Steps:

1. Launch program and select Settings - File Transfer - Enable File Sharing

Image

2. Click the File Transfer icon on the top bar

Image

3. Click Share a file / Share a folder at the bottom of the window to add to your list of resources

Result (viewed from connected machine):

Downloaded files and entire folders are saved to the configured download location.

The most recent update just integrated voice messaging, including for offline users. This means they just passed Skype Desktop in at least one important function. I use voice recordings frequently to deal with bad networks, and not having them on the desktop client to communicate with other users has been a frustrating issue.
