It does have a date stamp (same as the notepad) in its menu.Midas wrote:tactictoe wrote:Therefor the software starts always with it's factory default settings.
- Had already seen it but found it to limited even for a mere Notepad replacement: no configuration, no .LOG function, no URL activation, no date insertion, no case functions... no deal.
Somewhat off topic, but from a performance perspective:Midas wrote: Notepad++ won't do, it's more of a programmers editor, it takes too long to start (cf. relevant TP109 tests) and the interface is far too loaded with options.
IMHO, the best options in this category are currently Metapad and Win32pad (32-bit only), followed by Editor2 and AkelPad (also 64-bit), all of which have their own quirks and shortcomings.

Agreed.Midas wrote:As they say, close but no cigar: my own locale prescribed form is "2016/02/09 22:51:00" (choice of separators optional, valid for the whole EU, conforming in fact with the ISO standard).
I forgot about that one. Acting more like an easter egg and not using the notepad very often neither this type of log function. Thanks to remember me.Midas wrote:.LOG function IS present in official Notepad -- it was in fact defined by it. Agreed but I am a developer and suits my need. I am seriously considering moving to Highlight http://www.portablefreeware.com/forums/ ... =4&t=14487 for code.Midas wrote:Notepad++ won't do, it's more of a programmers editor, it takes too long to start (cf. relevant TP109 tests) and the interface is far too loaded with options.
Agreed too if you are truly looking for a notepad replacement. Still notepad++ is a fantastic software but now bloated with too many options, I wished you would have the ability to remove options and function so the software could load a little bit faster and present itself the way you like it. Let's say to be clear: I wish you could customize it's menu function... remove the one you do not use and don't need. Otherwise it is stable and a great tool for developer.Midas wrote:IMHO, the best options in this category are currently Metapad and Win32pad (32-bit only), followed by Editor2 and AkelPad (also 64-bit), all of which have their own quirks and shortcomings.
I would love to hear the result, if you do so Thanks in advance.TP109 wrote: Notepad2 v4.2.25 (bookmark edition R4) is also an extremely fast editor that handles large files well, although I haven't tested it yet for reliability or for its feature set. But now that I am reminded of it, I think I will test that next for stability/reliability.
Wasn't aware of this function. Good info. Works for Notepad2 also. Wonder how many other editors have this.Midas wrote: .LOG function IS present in official Notepad -- it was in fact defined by it. Tried it with most of the editors I've tested and the following editors support the .LOG function out-of-the-box:
Notepad2 (all versions)
NoteTabLight
MetaPad
SavageEd2
TedPad
Win32Pad
