BilderHerunterlader is a Java image download manager which means that it is cross-platform. It is open-source and can run on any OS if Java is installed. On Windows it can be easily made portable.

BilderHerunterlader about:
BilderHerunterlader is a program written in Java, which makes it easier to download images, hosted on image-host-websites.
But it is not limited to that. It can not only download images, but any type of files.
Support for additional hosts or websites can be added over user definded rules.
With user definded keywords, files can directly downloaded to the right folder on the harddisk.

BilderHerunterlader portable:
Download the latest version of BilderHerunterlader (the archive- BilderHerunterlader437Binary.zip, released on 2015-12-22, or any newer ZIP archive if there are later releases). Extract the archive to a folder. Open the folder- there is a file directories.properties.example- either rename it to directories.properties or create a new one with the same name (directories.properties). Open this file- directories.properties and delete this text:
DatabasePath=daten1/database/
SettingsPath=daten2/settings/
DownloadLogPath=daten3/dllogs/
LogsPath=daten4/logs/
and replace it with this text:
DatabasePath=data/
SettingsPath=data/
DownloadLogPath=data/
LogsPath=data/
If a new directories.properties has been created just paste the above quoted text. This way BilderHerunterlader will save all data and settings inside program folder, otherwise it will store data and settings in C:\Users\UserName\.BH.- note that the instructions how to make BilderHerunterlader portable at BilderHerunterlader web-site are outdated, as the developer informed me.

BilderHerunterlader license:
This program is OpenSource and linsenced under the GPL (v2).
BilderHerunterlader note:
Java needs to be installed in order BilderHerunterlader to run.

There are 3 ways to download images:
- if the image hosting site is supported via a plug-in Add links command can be used (Add download window opens where the web-page URL should be pasted- right-click- Paste)
- in other cases command Parse pages should be used (Parse pages window opens where the web-page URL should be pasted- right-click- Paste)
- if a browser add-on is installed (supported browsers- Firefox, Pale Moon, SeaMonkey, Opera, Internet Explorer), right-click on an opened web-page and choose either Download files with BH or Download embedded images with BH commands. After the images are automatically added just press OK and then press Start. I have tested the Firefox add-on (the latest version- bilderherunterlader-4.1-sm+fx.xpi) and it does the job fine, it should also work with Pale Moon and SeaMonkey.

BilderHerunterlader was originally hosted at BerliOS, this is the original web-site at Internet Archive.

To my knowledge BilderHerunterlader is the only free image download manager that works with virtually any web-page that contains images (via Parse images).

BilderHerunterlader is still in active development- the latest version (4.3.7) was released on 2015-12-22.

The developer of BilderHerunterlader was kind enough to respond to my message concerning program's portability and to provide working instructions about how to run the program in portable mode.

Thanks — I saw this in my research but didn’t have a chance to test. I’ll dig into it soon.

For those that stumble across this thread, he means this: jPortable, but it may also require the JAR launcher: http://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/ ... e_launcher (I haven't tested).

BilderHerunterlader is still in development, latest version (as of 2018-06-11) is 4.9.0 (released on 2018-03-11). BilderHerunterlader is robust and fast, so fast that I had problems capturing screens. Several images:

I haven't found a better image downloader yet, I still prefer BilderHerunterlader to the commercial program I have.

Ha! That's encouraging.

Update: still in active development

https://sourceforge.net/projects/bilder ... der/files/

Changes in just the past two months:
v4.13.0:
- Bug Fixed: Low performance because of synchronized blocks in HostManager. They are now replaced by read/write locks.
- Performance improvement and bug fixes in QueueManagerBase
- Performance improvement when adding, updating or deleting a lot of queue/keyword entries

v4.12.2:
- Bug Fixed: Auto Retry Downloads was not working anymore
- Bug Fixed: Downloads Complete Notification was not working anymore

v4.12.1:
- Bug Fixed: QueueScheduler was not executing tasks when maxConnectionCountPerHost is zero

v4.12.0:
- Use JProgressBar in renderer, instead of placing progress bars into table data
- Bug Fixed: Restart was not working on Linux
- Removed all singletons
- QueueManager now manages the QueueTableModel, instead of Queue, to reduce locking overhead
- Separated status label in Queue into two labels, so that row count can be updated separately
- Replaced old implementation for managing download queue by new implementation, which uses QueueManagerBase
- Moved code away from Pic class, which should not have been there
- Fixed regex for nested class exclusion when loading Host Classes
- Updated dependencies
- Removed swingx dependency. Implemented new class for hiding columns. Hiding columns was to only reason for swingx, so now it is not needed anymore
- Bug Fixed: Image previews were not working on OpenJDK
