Is anyone here able to confirm the suspicion Innuendo (donationcoder forum member) has about AIMP being evilware?

Neither could I reproduce the behavior of AIMP which innuendo described nor did I found any traces of the malware he mentioned in his posting. Nevertheless I would appreciate a lot if you posted any further findings on this matter.

V3.00 Beta is available. Anyone using it regularly? Any insight about portability/stealthness?

Just installed it, but seems to be very slow, unstable and memory eating stage. Impossible to use it. Reminds me when Winamp went from v2 to v3.

Re: AIMP - news on the latest beta

#43 Post by webfork »

Latest beta version includes the following:

AIMP v3.00 Build 915 Beta 4 (05.08.2011)
+ Plugins: Added context menu extension for Windows Explorer

... which is obviously less portable but also mentions:

+ Fixed: Portable version of AIMP3 intercepts associations from AIMP2

So it looks like the new version will maintain its focus on portability. Good news.

Quick test on my win7x64; it creates

HKLM\software\classes\AIMP.TDropTarget
and
HKLM\software\classes\Wow6432Node\CLSID\{0041494D-5033-4472-6F70-546172676574}\ProgID
registry keys.

The current entry lists those registry entries, so I guess this is portable. Should I add a note to the entry?

Thanks for testing, Joby
