TeXstudio - LaTeX environment

#1 Post by webfork »

Synopsis: "User-friendly environment for building, managing and compiling LaTeX documents."

Testing details: I've been interested in developing LaTeX as a solution for batch operations and quickly developing content for some time now and though TeXstudio might help me get there but this was a little more than I was willing to get into.

I did appreciate the community's understanding of the importance of portability. TeXstudio distributes a "portable" version but requires one of two other programs, both of them having portable versions with an unfortunately complex setup process.

Status: the "TeXstudio" program itself is portable. I didn't make it far enough into the process to test the Miktex program.

Please note that the TeXstudio portable ZIP can be used with the portable MiKTeX/TeX Live distributions, if you don't want to go the PAF route.

The manual setting of the various TeX paths only needs to be done once - the INI will store all of them for future use. For the majority of the paths all you need to put in there is the relative path to the necessary exe (most in the miktex bin directory) - leave the rest as is. There are a few other external programs needed, like GhostScript, and Sumatra for external PDF viewing.

Btw: previously mentioned TeXPortable is another solution. The site has the AutoHotKey source code, so you can make it work with TeXstudio instead of the bundled TeXmaker (although I didn't succeed when I tried).
