The findings presented in the thread you point to are valid when BitWise IM is run in non-portable mode. Under Setup, select "Save preferences with the program", and all settings will be saved in an ini-file in the application folder. This is what the "mobility" link on the BitWiseIM.com website talks about. I think you need to re-assess BitWise as portable.
