Mumble - VoIP client/server combo

Submit portable freeware that you find here. It helps if you include information like description, extraction instruction, Unicode support, whether it writes to the registry, and so on.

mumble and murmur

#1 Post by tryforsure »

A teamspeak like client and server with lower latencies.

http://mumble.sourceforge.net/

I guess, like my other suggestion, this wont get added to the database either.

cheers

Hmm looks like this version is putting stuff in the registry.
My humble apologies

Since this would be a New entry for TPFC, do you have any instructions on how you have made this App Portable? It looks very cool, like it actually has some potential. I am interested. I extracted the exe with Universal Extractor, and launched the Mumble.exe executable but it gives an error stating a dll is missing from the directory Mumble.exe was launched from. I haven't had anytime to go further with the app because I'm at work. I may just install it and check it out.

I don't have the time to check this right now, but if no one does in the next few days I'll give it a look.
It seems this was changed to be more portable, from Here.

Found out that mumble was made to be portable. If you add mumble.ini to the same directory as mumble.exe it will use mumble.ini for settings.
and info Here. (Post #5)
kissaki wrote: You can run mumble in portable mode by creating a Mumble.ini file in your mumbles directory. This makes it load and save settings and cert into the file instead of registry (/user settings on *nix). So, in addition to your main client copy over the folder for a second Mumble install and create the Mumble.ini file.
theres also mention of an .ini file here:
http://mumble.sourceforge.net/Murmurguide
but its long and I only searched through it and didn't give it a good read, sorry. -_-
I just thought I'd throw the info up before I forgot about it really. >.>
(Plus this post will remind me to look at it later :P)

It created \user\current\Documents\MumbleAutomaticCertificateBackup.p12 file and empty HKCU\software\Mumble\Mumble registry key.

Bleh, sorry it took so long for me to get back to this, but it also needs these .dll files to run:
msvcp100.dll
msvcr100.dll

Mumble - VoIP client/server combo

#7 Post by webfork »

Intended for games with features like easy setup and positional audio but includes high quality audio, echo cancellation, and client/servers available for a variety of platforms. Also includes recording, text-to-speech, mute, and more.

I was especially drawn to it because you can run it on a local LAN (great for VoIP over a short distance e.g. other side of the building).

License: NewBSD https://github.com/mumble-voip/mumble/b ... er/LICENSE (Softpedia incorrectly lists it as GPL)

Status: Untested. a possible way to get it to work portably exists but I haven't tested yet:
http://sourceforge.net/p/mumble/discuss ... d/0a2bc9d5

Unlikely to be stealth as it uses Qt libraries.

I managed to extract the MSI installer but Mumble failed to run because of unregistered DLLs.

By the way this thread may be merged with that one- http://www.portablefreeware.com/forums/ ... f=4&t=2741.

Works for me. Used latest version v1.2.11. Not stealth of course. Leaves behind the usual QT registry stuff and an empty mumble reg key. Not sure about the unregistered dll's thing. Maybe you need to unblock the files.

If it's officially released on PortableApps you can safely assume that it's both tested and stealth :)
