EasyComic - drawing program

#1 Post by webfork »

Synopsis: Pretty cool, somewhat basic vector draw/edit program with a lot of promise.  Sadly it doesn't support SVG (which is the standard for most vector drawing programs).  The author has indicated he is going to try integrating that in the future.

Home: http://www.easycomic.net/

Softpedia: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia ... omic.shtml

Steps: Uniextract.  It's registerware, but I put in a fake email address and info without issue.

License: Freeware

Status: Portable, not stealth.  Couldn't tell where it was saving the program's "theme" (basically turn the window color blue).  Still portable because it doesn't actually have any other settings.

I'm confused: license.txt lists:
Permission is granted to anyone to use this software for any purpose,
including commercial applications, and to alter and redistribute it,
provided that the following conditions are met:
I don't see a license.lic. What am I missing?

Oh there it is: I re-downloaded it and didn't enter in the registration thing. When you type in some kind of email address, it punches out a license.lic file.

Yes, it's technically registerware but since you can type anything into those blanks, I didn't see it as a real block. *shrug

EasyComic is at version 3.0
2015/07/18 easycomic v3.0

1. Improve the material library, and all materials are freeware.
2. The new user do not need registeration.

Old thread update: site offline linking to archive.org: https://web.archive.org/web/20140929192 ... ic.net:80/

For the download, I could only find v.1.5 over at FileHippo: https://filehippo.com/download_easycomic/

1) Version 3.0 can be downloaded from: https://en.freedownloadmanager.org/Wind ... -FREE.html
Direct download link: https://cdn.freedownloadmanager.org/sto ... 718_en.zip

2) You can install or uniextract the setup file
I have tested both versions: v.1.5 and 3.0
For both versions:
I was never offered the possibility to register the app (See webfork's instructions above: viewtopic.php?t=22102&p=102480#p102480 )
All I got when I launched the app was an error message:
"Sorry, version 1.5 (/3.0) has been expired.
Please, download new version from easycomic.net"
But there is no update available at easycomic.net, which by the way is not really related to "easycomic"
Also, in the installation folder there is a "QEasyComicUpdate.exe" that actually "works", ... well, sort of, because it accesses the internet and downloads a "QEasyComic.exe" to the app folder after having renamed the original QEasyComic.exe >> QEasyComic_bak.exe
However, the new QEasyComic.exe is NOT an executable file, just change its extension to html and you'll see an "easycomic.net" web page.
==> At this point, there is nothing you can do to get this app to work!

3) Actually, the app (V.1.5 and v.3.0) has an expiration date: 2016-06-01
In order to run the app, set the system clock to a date before the expiration date.
Launch the app: you now have access to the app without limitation.
You can display the expiration date: Click on Help >> About EasyComic
You can now reset the system clock to the current date/time.
EasyComic runs fine in Windows 10.

4) Enjoy the app! Can be occasionally useful.
However, it looks like, easycomic can be considered as "abandonware" !!!
