Thank you both for your vote and for the notification about the new version (not so new but new for me). In fact your recommendation triggered my urge to add YouTube Pal to the database.

Youtube Pal vs Youtube-DL

#20 Post by __philippe »

Unfortunately.
Youtube Pal current version v3.4 (24-SEP-2016) is balking at accessing recent Youtube files URL's, lately.
<could not parse Youtube page for URL < https://www.youtube.com/...> possibly due to a change in YouTube page structure...>
Meanwhile, waiting for a Youtube Pal update,
Youtube-DL appears a worthy interim substitute, for those brave souls willing to dabble in a bit of CLI...

Code: Select all

C:\>sigcheck -a -q -v youtube-dl.exe

C:\youtube-dl.exe:
        Verified: Unsigned
        Link date: 16:22 21/10/2014
        Publisher: n/a
        Company: n/a
        Description: YouTube video downloader
        Product: youtube-dl
        Prod version: 2018.12.17
        File version: 2018.12.17
        MachineType: 32-bit
        Binary Version: 2018.12.17.0
        Original Name: youtube-dl.exe
        Internal Name: n/a
        Copyright: n/a
Comments: Command-line program to download videos from YouTube.com and other video sites
        Entropy: 7.731
        VT detection: 0/66
Despite Youtube-DL.exe alarming number of optional CLI parameters, downloading a single video file really is a cinch, e.g. :

Code: Select all

C:/>youtube-dl https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rRgflR3xdbk
(Warning: Monty Python addicts only... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rRgflR3xdbk )

as well as

Yeah, Windows 10 only ships with .NET 4.0 and above by default. Older versions need to be manually enabled from "Add/Remove Windows Features" section.

That's because of ffmpeg (~30MB), from which it uses the conversion abilities, but... point taken.

tl;dr: SMALLEST THAT "STILL WORKS", as of 2020-11-11, SEE BELOW ABOUT ffmpeg... ITS NORMALLY ON YOUR USB DRIVE ALREADY

Public service announcment:

Most of us have "ffmpeg" somewhere on own portable app units....
normally being used by other "major media players", streaming software or video conversion/editing software.

Re-pointing apps to a single "ffmpeg" is possible, sometimes VERY easy menu driven, other times you need to do some cgf/ini edits....but:

Minus the 30mb ffmpeg, this WORKS STILL & IS ABOUT 10MB....the next smallest is "utubster" @12MB ...BUT IT dl'S ffmpeg TO THE HOST SYSTEM (SO ITS NOT REALLY 12MB or clean)
