Just found out about this app as well via ghacks.net.

Might give it a try since I'm a f.lux user.

SunsetScreen version 1.05 is available:
•2015-03-19: v1.05 - Has 24 hour mode option (default) and is more compatible for worldwide usage.

•2015-03-18: v1.04 - New 'Info' checkbox which displays more detailed information should you choose. Also overhauled system for expanding the colour range (until you do, certain options are now greyed out or restricted for sanity's sake). Finally, colours are more numerically precise.

•2015-03-17: v1.03 - SunsetScreen now allows you to select ALL colours including darker shades. Simply look for the bright orange button that will appear when you try, click it, then click Yes to the prompt, and then reboot, and voila.
Resetting to factory settings also now doesn't affect the "Load on Win Startup" setting.

•2015-03-17: v1.02 - Switched default mode to "Cool Incandescent" whilst I figure out a way to allow Windows 8+ to support darker screen modes.

•2015-03-16: v1.01 - Preferences are autosaved after controls are changed (before, you needed to manually close SunsetScreen for it to save).
Also fixed bug when occasionally certain Windows prompts may turn the screen back to normal and SunsetScreen didn't respond afterwards.

It is by the same developer of OpalCalc (http://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=2602)

Finally had some time to test out the app. App takes about 10MB RAM.

Could really use some hotkey support to change the brightness like f.lux, also the GUI is not as nice as f.lux, but otherwise it works very well.

SunsetScreen is at version 1.11. It seems to be in active development right now, you should contact the developer with this request. http://www.skytopia.com/email.html

Cool, thanks for adding.

Usage notes (one week in)
  • Works better than several of the tools I've tested.  I didn't even notice how my screen had changed colors until well after made sense.  I also noticed my eyes were less strained after a day of staring at my screen
Wishlist
  • Ability to quickly and easily turn the tool on and off for color-sensitive work (F.lux had something like this).  The interface would come from a right-click on the tray icon (a simple disable/enable function).  Ideally this would be something something that shifts over in a few seconds rather than suddenly clicking over unchecking "Running" does currently, which is really disorienting.[
  • Ability to set sunrise and sunset times based on location, drawing from some public database (e.g. http://www.sunrisesunset.com/)
  • Open source license

SunsetScreen is minerware now

Updated to v1.30 and:
http://www.skytopia.com/software/sunsetscreen/#history wrote: ... Also implemented trial version (I have to eat too :( ). Either upgrade after a week by paying $5 for the full version, or agree to the integrated peer sharing system to use Sunsetscreen for free (can be disabled at any time). If you accept, your use of SunsetScreen is free of charge in exchange for safely using some of your device's resources, and only when SunsetScreen is not running. You may turn this off from the Options window. Please see our TOS for further information.
License agreement for SunsetScreen
Luminati SDK EULA

We should stick with the last "freeware" version (1.28) or remove it from DB.
In my opinion - downvote ASAP and forget about this piece of shit.
Yes, "you may turn this off from the Options window" (according to that poor, hungry, starving developer), but once corrupted - forever corrupted

Good catch. Adding a note to the entry.

I recommend hanging on to the entry in the database simply because we don't have a lot of similar tools but if we can't find a mirror of the last freeware version, it definitely needs to go.

I went looking for the 1.28 version (last freeware) without success. The one listed over at techworld.com https://www.techworld.com/download/syst ... nloadLinks has no history on VirusTotal so that's not going to work. Anyone else?

I've been burned a few times on this and, moreover, I am NOT a fan of minerware. I can count the implementations on one hand that were anything better than a total waste of electricity.

I also definitely don't mind developers switching to a for-pay model for their software and I wish this one luck, I just get frustrated with so many devs not acknowledging the promotion they received by initially releasing as freeware.

I'm currently using 1.28 and haven't upgraded yet.

Let me know if you want me to upload this somewhere, webfork.

v1.28 is still available from the old link (inside a ZIP) - http://www.skytopia.com/software/sunset ... Screen.zip
Maybe it will be removed in the future
New version is just EXE
