Retested v2.5.4

Portable Not Stealth

Requires CrashSender1402.dll and CrashSender1402.exe to run. The crash reports are saved to \AppData\Local\CrashRpt\UnsentCrashReports\RegistryFinder_2.5.4.0

In my case(8.1 core 64-bit), the "UnsentCrashReports" folder was created inside the main app folder, not in "\AppData\Local\CrashRpt".

Probably, because of this change in the latest version ( v2.8 ):

  • Moved UnsentCrashReport into the same directory where user settings are stored (%APPDATA% subfolder for normal installation, application directory for portable).

Tested Registry Finder v2.8.0.0 (64-bit): Portable

I updated the DB entry to reflect that.

Topic update: Registry Finder v2.35 released (changelog at http://registry-finder.com/version_history.html).

Pro tip: mostly un-noticed in Reg Finder "File" menu, there's an option that can be really useful in portability testing, especially in regard to those persistent registry traces left by some programs (like the aptly name Trolltech entries).

I'm talking about the option to create a REG file that, upon merging with the system registry, will automatically erase any entries it contains -- see below for location.

Updated the description with an edited version of the author's description.

I think this is a nice registry tool and our original short description didn't do it justice!

Registry Finder is already natively portable -- but, as a system tool that I need to run indifferently on 32 and 64-bit systems, I came up with a little yaP configuration to do it, while keeping settings across versions and erasing any traces left behind (only on re-run, as the launcher quits immediately):

Code: Select all

; configuration file for yaP v0.7.1.5 (http://yap.rolandtoth.hu/)
; application name: Registry Finder
; version: v2.49
; website: http://www.registry-finder.com/

[GENERAL]
!admin = 1
application = App\x32\RegistryFinder.exe :: App\x64\RegistryFinder.exe
commandline = --dataFolder "{YAPROOT}\Data"

; commandline =
; workdir =

[BEFORE]
-dir = %LocalAppData%\CrashRpt
nowait = 1

Registry Finder v2.50.1 released on June 12, 2021
• web site: https://registry-finder.com/
• direct downlaod archive 32 bit: https://registry-finder.com/bin/2.50.1. ... Finder.zip
• direct downlaod archive 64 bit: https://registry-finder.com/bin/2.50.1. ... nder64.zip
• changelog: https://registry-finder.com/version_history.html
• translations: https://registry-finder.com/translations.html
• Softpedia riview: https://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Reg ... ppov.shtml

Command Line flags
Registry Finder has a number of command line parameters you can use to customize its behavior.

Code: Select all

--help			Prints help message.
--computerName arg	Specifies the name or IP address of a computer to connect to.
--navigate arg Specifies a registry key to navigate to. If this parameter is set to "clipboard" then the path is taken from the clipboard.
--reopenLocal arg	Restore or not previously opened local registry windows when Registry Finder starts (arg: true or false, default is true).
--reopenRemote arg	Restore or not previously opened remote registry windows (arg: true or false, default is true).
--dataFolder arg	Specifies folder to store settings and undo history.
--import arg Imports the specified .reg file into the registry. The work is always performed in a separate instance (that is the --multiInst is implied).
--importSilent Do not display a confirmation of import.
--multiInst When an instance of Registry Finder is already running, starts a new instance. By default, the running instance is activated instead of starting another one.
Note 1. The parameter names are case insensitive.
Note 2. There are additional parameters (displayed with --help) but they are left undocumented since they are experimental and may not work as expected.
Dark theme
Registry Finder automatically uses dark theme when you turn on dark mode in Windows. (Head to Settings > Personalization > Colors. Select the "Dark" option under the "Choose your app mode" section.)
Dark mode is available only in Windows 10 so, in turn, the dark theme in Registry Finder is available only in Windows 10.
