EverEdit : Professional Text&Source Editor

Submit portable freeware that you find here. It helps if you include information like description, extraction instruction, Unicode support, whether it writes to the registry, and so on.

  • Syntax Highlighting built-in for many languages

Truly impressive find, avi-aryan. EverEdit is loaded with features, while surprisingly lightweight (4580KB working set on load, in my XP Pro SP3!). It strikes me as a Sublime Text Windows replacement 'wannabe', which in itself is quite a tall order. Browsing through its folders made it appear extremely user customizable. But what really sold me is MarkDown support...

EverEdit comes from China, so the radical paranoid should abstain; for the savvy, there's an open code repository (https://github.com/everedit/). It is based on HexEdit of Catch22.net, a website also famous for some superior programming tutorials -- this is a case to say that the teachings really did fructify... :)

I didn't test portability thoroughly, but the zip file downloaded can just be extracted and run: http://www.everedit.net/download/.

@I am Bass
I have used EverEdit for a while (currently use Sublime Text) and was under the impression that it is portable. Thanks for the final confirmation.

As you may have seen, the repo is only for managing the plugins (addons) and other components. The program itself is not open source.

  • I saw that, but since EverEdit is based on OSS HexEdit (although under a MIT type, supposedly very similar to the BSD one, hence no obligations), I thought useful to point the code repository out... (BTW, HexEdit code repo is at http://github.com/strobejb/HexEdit).

    More, to keep people from future surprises, I advise everyone to browse through the '1033.lng' file, where strings related to user registration and buyer code insertion can easily be found... :?:

Not so promising... fortunately deleting all language files the application still works :)

That's bad. People will be going back to the free Sublime Text which is definitely better than the old free Everedit.
But , isn't it possible to keep Everedit's last free version here on the listing.

Hi,
I'm the author of EverEdit, hope you like my text editor. I've been trying to keep it be simple, high performance, easy to use/extend/customize...
2.9 is not the last free version, I will continue fix the bugs for this version.

Done ... I changed back the database entry to the last freeware version (v2.9.0.2074) :wink: ... and 5 points from me :)

@ everedit: Thanks for providing the links to the last freeware versions. :!:
