I see thanks. Unfortunately applications that install services are not portable in my opinion - but this doesn't mean one can't use it without installation.

  • I agree 100% -- if absolutely needed, at least they should completely uninstall them when the program is done running...

Hi tproli,
I can not find these services.
- there is not in Control Panel
- there is not in 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\egGetSvc\ImagePath'
- but in EagleGet Forum there is this post: http://forum.eagleget.com/viewtopic.php?id=2043 and I think that is relative to installed version
- I use Windows 8.1 64 bit with admin privileges.

b.t.w.
I have used 'EagleGet Portable'

@tproli
I totally agree with you. If you delete 'egGetSvc' service EagleGet will continue to run and download but after restart it will not remember the downloaded files before the restart. So EagleGet can be made portable but it will be half-functional.

Here's where it shows up on my Win7x86 machine:

Adding a note to the entry.

Thanks. I confirm that I do not see this on Win 8.1 x64.

Hi folks,
here is a gaP launcher for EagleGet 2.0.4.0.
I can not see services under Windows 8.1 x64 so I ask You to try this gaP launcher (gaP build 1.0.1.0).
Here is download link (removed)

New version of EagleGet v2.0.4.1 seems to work better portable. Remembers downloads when you exit and restart app. Note that the portable zip download atm seems to be missing 'fusion.dll' dependency. Had to use the one from previous version.

changes:
1. Fixed: Download halted under certain circumstances.
2. Fixed: Cannot download from ziddu.com.
3. Fixed: Cannot install browser extension to Opera.
4. Optimized: Portable version of EagleGet.
5. Optimized: Windows driver
6. Fixed: Other minor problems.

I also don't get that egGetSvc/EGMonitor.exe service in Win 8.1 x64.

Strangely with version EagleGet 2.0.4.3 I no longer detect 'egGetSvc' service.

Tested v2.0.4.4 Portable*

Settings are saved to EagleGet folder in the application folder.

*I disabled "Launch EagleGet on Windows Startup" + "Join EUEP to Help us Improve EagleGet", and "Browser Integration" (including monitoring for "File Hosting Sites" which are on by default.

I also checked "Disable Automatic Update Check".

Annoyance: launches http://www.eagleget.com/manually-add-ea ... e=portable on first run.

Note: saves EG_m.dat file in \AppData\Local\Temp

Thanks for that. I've updated the entry. I didn't see the "file hosting sites" setting so I put "if present".

Site appears to have gone offline. The last version I have is 2.0.4.4 and Afterdawn has v2.0.4.80: https://www.afterdawn.com/software/netw ... rtable.cfm

Maybe this is a good opportunity to downvote the entry? (since recent versions have gone adware...)

I've downvoted the entry. I agree it no longer has any place in the database.
