USB Flash Drives helps us to transfer files from desktop to/from laptops or even share its content with our peers. It makes our life easier but If the USB flash drive is infected with virus, not only you may lose the data in the storage, you are also affecting the security of every computer once it’s plugged in . Ntfs Drive Protection can help you to Protect your Removable Drives and even if your storage device has been plugged into an infected computer, the malware will be unable to create its autorun.inf.

Start protection:

To use the “Ntfs Drive Protection” your Removable Drive’s Files system must be NTFS

1. Run Ntfs Drive Protection and select your drive (under the Target Drive)
2. If you want to create a unprotected File , tick the “Create a Unprotected Folder” checkbox and write the Folder’s name.
3. Click the Start Protection Button and Wait for End

Image

After Start the protection , you can use the Removable Drive’s files and folders but you can not change them or you can not create a new File /Folder

Stop protection:

1. Run Ntfs Drive Protection and select your drive (under the Target Drive)

2. Click the Stop Protection Button and Wait for End , This option may cause the Process take longer, depending on the number of drivers , files and access speed After the process completed status indicator (right side of the process bar) shows you a white unlocked key on a Red background

Why should you use Ntfs Drive protection:
1. It is a Portable Freeware (You dont Have to install it)
2. It Protect your data from viruses , spywares, malwares…
3. Very easy to use

Note: If you use Windows XP or Windows 2003 and can’t see the NTFS Option please unplug your Removable drive and Plug it again. Format will delete all your data in Removable drive , For more information please read the Help File

Cool.
with "Ninja Pendisk" I could not keep an "AutoRun.inf" on my drive
"Ntfs Drive protection" protects my autoRun.inf file so I can assign a custom icon to my flash drive.

How do I get 2 or more unprotected folders?

Are there apps similar to "Ntfs Drive protection" that I don't know about?

Ntfs Drive protection creates only one unprotected folder but you can change any folder's permissions to make it Unprotected ;
1. Right click a folder and select Properties > select Security Tab
2. select "Everyone" user > click "Edit" button and tick Allow full control box then press Apply and Ok button

v 1.1 has been out for some time now.

http://www.sordum.org/8117/ntfs-drive-protection-v1-1/

What is new (v1.1) – 21.10.2013
1.FIXED – It doesn’t work in subfolder (for example: if you run “Ntfs Drive protection v1.0″ in “D:\example” folder and want to make any operation on D:\ returns an error)
2. Minor corrections of codes

Interesting stuff but neither the NTFS Drive Protection program nor USB Storage Protector give any insight into how they work. If a virus or worm is targeting external drives, wouldn't it target any write functionality disabled by these tools?

Yes, if these tools become popular. I'm afraid they're only security by obscurity. :(

  • For what it's worth and from what little I have read on it (including some user comments), I summoned that Ntfs Drive protection mostly changes filesystem permissions, tying the ability to make changes to the first computer you use to set the drive protection (hence the NTFS requirement)... everything will be gone upon re-formatting the drive, though.

"Ntfs Drive protection" may not be a silver bullet but it better than nothing &
protects my autoRun.inf file so I can assign a custom icon to my flash drive.
Love custom flash drive icon I do.

Also see http://www.raymond.cc/blog/stop-windows ... utoruninf/
I like Bitdefender USB Immunizer & Ninja Pendisk but they don't let me custom flash drive icon.

Also see http://www.raymond.cc/blog/create-fake- ... dification
We need an app that does this automatically on eject & PC shut down.

If we're taking precautions, I'd like to see it integrated with a drive-filling mechanism. There are a few different programs for the drive filling / permissions handling but I wonder why they haven't been combined yet.

I think one of these has been discussed on here before but I can't seem to find it.
