Dismissed this based on the "Single File Replacement" limitation, but that was clearly premature...
  • DMDE has a number of freeware features (Free Edition) such as disk editing, simple partition management (e.g. easy partition undelete), RAID constructing, disk imaging, single file recovery.
  • DMDE supports FAT12/16, FAT32, NTFS, and works under Windows 98/ME/2K/XP/Vista/7 (GUI and Console), DOS (Console), Linux (Terminal).
  • Algorithms of thorough search and analysis effectively reconstruct directory structure and recover files after some complex disk damages (such as format, partition manager failure, and other). It is possible to find data quickly without a full scan in the case of minor filesystem damage.
  • Simple partition manager finds and restores accidentally removed partitions using information from boot sectors of FAT, NTFS, exFAT, and superblocks of Ext2/3/4, and from their backup copies. Partitioning is displayed in the form useful for analysis and error correction (errors are highlighted).
  • compatible with the most recent Windows versions and supports automatic volume locking during writing to volume areas. With the disk editor you can view, edit, and navigate through different disk structures (such as MBR partition tables, FAT and MFT file tables, boot sectors, directories and files of FAT and NTFS). Cluster map allows finding the file located at a specified cluster or sector.
  • RAID constructor is for virtual reconstruction of RAID-0, RAID-1, RAID-4, RAID-5 (including delayed parity), JBOD/spanned disks.
  • NTFS utilities allow you to copy, delete file, create, repair, remove directory bypassing NTFS driver.
  • DMDE supports national file names, disk images, large disks, large files, large sectors, compressed NTFS files, and other specific features.
Unless I'm getting my facts mixed up, this seems like this is the opposite of most programs that have the basic features but reserve the really powerful stuff for paying customers. Anyway I'll obviously pull it down and (sort of) hope I don't have a need to test it out.
