Portable Opera

#1 Post by TheReaper » Sat May 13, 2006 10:46 am

It doesnt write to the registry, saves a profile/s to your portable device,
When you close Opera Portable, all data will be overwritten and erased with a nifty NSIS script(even if opera crashes).

Another version of portable Opera 8.54 for USB is available at:
http://www.opera-usb.com/operausben.htm

This works well on my system.

Yes maybe, but if opera were to crash data is left behind on the host machine; the version of Opera I mentioned still runs the script that deletes browser tracks and other stored data even if it crashes.

Thanks. I have added it as an alternative under the database entry for OperaUSB.

Another thing to note is that Opera Portable not only deletes data, it overwrites the files. So restore or undelete utility would not be able to recover them.

I like this a lot, but the real problem I have with it is the lack of plugin support. Though I'm usually not a fan of Flash content, on some sites having Flash installed is vital to navigation.

Portable Opera

New versions of OperaPortable (http://www.kejut.com/operaportable) and OperaUSB (http://www.opera-usb.com/operausben.htm) are available.

However, you may wish to wait until versions that utilize the freshly released Opera 9.10 are available, which should be quite soon.

Portable Opera 9.5 Alpha

#9 Post by A30N » Thu Sep 20, 2007 9:41 am

This is the first build of the Opera browser to use the new Kestrel rendering engine, so it's an almost complete rewrite over version 9.23. I've used PortableOpera and OperaUSB built on version 9.23 for quite some time now, and the new 9.5 alpha is noticeably faster, and I have yet to experience any bugs or crashes.

I like Opera, and appreciate the USB version, but just can't understand the absence of a spell checker. What could they be thinking?

Even this 9.50 version doesn't recognize the installed (non-portable) Aspell, even after installing the missing spellcheck.ini file in the root dir.

Just can't recommend this app, unless the user is a great speller or has no use for a spell check routine...
