That's a clever way to tell someone to search the forums before posting.

Just registered on oszone.net forums so I can download and test the latest version, 1.6.1.65a.
I used Sandboxie to avoid those shell extension registry entries. I just put a shortcut for Universal Extractor in my SendTo folder.
Everything seems to work fine. I'll report if I find any problems with this version.

Why don't they make it a public beta?

I am using it for last 6 months without any problem. And the online update feature also works fine.

I honestly would love to get my hands on the source code to see what I could bring to the tableau.

Yes It Would Have been lot better if it was also open source, but sadly the source is not available.

How about a guinnextract (guinnesstract?) written from scratch in AutoIt?

Nice idea  All I would probably do is tidy up the code and bring it up to an efficient AutoIt standard e.g. proper variable declaration and good use of scope.

Wait, how is that possible when the offical versions have always been open source? Someone care to explain who can read Russian.

This is the branch I have been using (for the past couple of years, at least since I noticed the official version development stopped). Auto-update is a killer feature in something like this. After the installer extraction, it seems to be portable (settings are kept in INI file alongside the main executable).

I'm with the majority in support of the view that something as essential as this should be thoroughly FLOSSed -- and, better yet, hosted on SF.net or something...
