RDilly - registry backup

Submit portable freeware that you find here. It helps if you include information like description, extraction instruction, Unicode support, whether it writes to the registry, and so on.

RDilly - registry backup

#1 Post by plastique »

RDilly is program that makes a backup copy of the NT,2K,XP registry. It's very similar to System Restore found in WinME and WinXP. You get a point-in-time copy of the registry labeled with the date it was made. You also are able to restore the registry to this point-in-time copy.
Instructions/Information
Manually run or schedule RDilly to run. Everything is automatic and transparent, so it doesn't interrupt you. A new folder will be created in the same folder RDilly is located with the date (in YY-MM-DD format) and a serial number starting with 001 as its name.

Start, Finish, and Error messages are placed in the Application Eventlog under the source name "RDilly". In this folder, you will see the same hive names you see in %SystemRoot%\system32\config. The hives are ready to manually copy in the case of a disaster. If the system is bootable, RDilly can restore the registry in just a few clicks.

The HARDWARE hive is included in the backup folder - this files is for debugging purposes only.

I suspect this program must be run with local Adiminstrators rights or Backup Operator rights. It needs to have Backup rights (SeBackupPrivilege) to read the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SECURITY key. Also, it must be able to create and delete the files it created in the [%SystemRoot%\System32\Config] folder.

You decide if it's true portable.
