Tested Portable Listen N Write Free version 1.15.0.2

1. Download .zip package from https://sites.google.com/site/elefantso ... edirects=0 and extract to a folder of your choice.

2. (Uni)extract the self-extracting installer Portable Listen N Write Free version#.exe (7zip should work too)

3. Open Listen N Write.ini file in the Files folder and change the second to last line from 1 to 0. This will turn off the "Controlla aggiornamenti all’avvio" (Check for updates at startup) option.

4. Launch Listen N Write.exe

Settings: Application folder

Portable, not stealth.

  • @webfork: would you consider moving this to "Submissions", then? Thanks. :)

Listen N Write

Works fairly well, although there's no magic here: the program is very simple with a play-pause function that plays a few seconds, pauses, goes for a few more seconds, continues, etc. The shuttle back and forth push things 4 seconds either way while the play-pause item (looks like a yellow happy face). In essence, I think other more robust audio players could easily write up a plugin to cover what this program does (sans the attached text editor, which is optional even inside this program).

Wishlist:

* Ability to enlarge the window so the progress bar can cover a lot of area (good for very long recordings)

* If you hold down the shuttle buttons, it should cycle forward like a standard player.

* If the program could pick up wide areas of silence (anything over 3 seconds by default) and point them out, that might help break it up visually.

* (Low) Ability to annotate the recording to help separate it into sections (e.g. first speaker, second speaker, etc.) so you can jump around quickly.

New Release 1.18.0.0 14/11/2016

Code: Select all

 Completely changed the "Smart Play" (dictation mode):
    Playback stops when you type text and starts 1,75 seconds after you stop typing,
    rewinding audio of 0,5 seconds (these values can be changed from the "Options" menu);
 Changed the STOP position to prevent accidental presses;
 the command "Save As..." assigns to the text file the same name as the audio file;
 other changes and improvements.
Note also the ini file has grown by one line
so the ini edit above to stop "Check for updates at startup"
is now on line 24 : change from 1 to 0

Also the Option
in Italian..All'avvio riapri l'ultimo file aperto
means.....Re-open the previous file on start-up
(it does not seem to be overwritten by the translation in the .lng file)
